Originally established as Done Bookmakers, Betfred has roots that stretch back to a land-based betting shop that opened in 1967 in Manchester, England. Fred and Peter Done used winnings from a successful 1966 World Cup soccer bet on England to open their first property. Following purchases of sportsbook chains, like Robert Walker, plus expansion into the Greater London Area, Done Bookmakers was rebranded to Betfred in 2004.
History
After expanding their land-based business, it made sense for Betfred to enter the online betting industry. That big occasion was celebrated in 2004, as Betfred launched their digital platform that offered sports, casino and legendary Betfred horse racing action. Poker, bingo, lotto and virtual sports were also offered when Betfred hit the switch on their online website.
Not yet available in Canada, watch for a full Betfred review once they start operating in the Great White North. In the meantime check out the best sportsbooks that accept Canadians in our expert review section.
Far from a fly by night business, Betfred has a long history of charitable donations and sports sponsorship. Betfred partners with sports heavyweights like EPL legend Manchester United FC, the Scottish Premiership League and as the official betting odds supplier at Wembley Stadium. Coming full circle, Betfred launched their highly regarded mobile betting platform in 2007.
