EURO 2024 Gameday Odds (July 2) – Round of 16 Wraps With Two Key Matchups

Netherlands' forward #10 Memphis Depay controls the ball past Austria's defender #15 Philipp Lienhart during the UEFA Euro 2024 Group D football match between the Netherlands and Austria at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on June 25, 2024.

The Round of 16 has come and is nearly gone, with just one day left of action before EURO 2024 enters the quarter-finals. Tuesday’s list of fixtures is a little less star-studded than some previous days, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a ton to enjoy. Here’s what you can expect in both matches!

The two teams in our early game enter in very similar form – which is to say, form that they’re both looking to snap.

For Romania, their tournament kicked off with a 3-0 win against Ukraine where they had very little of the ball, but capitalized on their looks, scoring three goals in a little under a half-hour span to get a crucial three points. From there, they were handled fairly easily by Belgium and drew Slovakia, getting the point they’d ultimately need to win an airtight Group E on a 37th-minute penalty kick.

The Netherlands won their first game against Poland after conceding the first goal but controlling play from that point forward, eventually gaining victory in the 83rd minute off of a Wout Weghorst finish inside the box. Since, they’ve tied France in a quiet 0-0 result, and lost to Austria in a chaotic final game, which in the span of ten minutes saw the Dutch go from contention to win the group, to barely advancing through the wildcard.

The Dutch are heavily favoured to advance here. While their last week has been rocky, so has their opponents, and the Netherlands have dominated the head-to-head historically, with a 10 wins, one loss and three draws, and a goal differential of 29-3. With a bit more urgency and attention to detail on Tuesday, this game shouldn’t be a problem for them.

Game Bets To Consider

  • Memphis Depay is the man to watch for the Dutch in this one. The free-agent forward has an anytime goal priced at +130, and his shots on the target line are set at +135 for over 1.5.
  • The Netherlands have yet to strike early in this tournament, but following a draw and a loss, they owe their country a little bit of energy out of the gate. Betano is offering enhanced odds on a goal in the first 20 minutes at +225, up from +200.

Wrapping up the Round of 16 are two teams that have never faced each other in a competitive match, though they’re only a few months removed from their last friendly.

If you go based on that game, the likely victor couldn’t be more clear. Xaver Schlager put Austria up just two minutes in and while Turkey were able to equalize, it was floodgates from there, with Michael Gregoritsch scoring a natural hat trick to tilt the game far into Austria’s favour, and two more goals added on top for good measure, culminating in a 6-1 final result where Austria found the back of the net twice as often as Turkey put a shot on target.

Baed on the group stages, however, it might be a bit closer. Turkey has generated some great looks, putting together the third-most expected goals in the group stage behind just Portugal and Spain. Austria, on the other hand, rely on an excellent passing game and an aggressiveness in poaching the ball back.

Austria enters the match as Group D victors after losing their first match to France but defeating Poland and the Netherlands. Turkey finished second in Group F, defeating Georgia and Czechia but losing to Portugal.

Game Bets To Consider

  • Marko Arnautovic has lived up to his +187 pricetag for an anytime goal so far in this tournament, scoring once and generating a team-leading 1.2 expected goals. He’ll likely be the player they look to in order to get them over the top on Tuesday.
  • Someone who might set him or another Austrian teammate up is Christoph Baumgartner – the RB Leipzig midfielder has a goal and an assist and may be Austria’s most well-rounded player in this tournament. You can take him for a shot on target at -143, or an assist at +335.

England’s odds were unphased by their chaotic 2-1 win on Sunday, though Spain got some movement out of a healthy result. The rest of the top five slid back a bit as a market reaction, but are largely in the same value ranges as they were before.
