Canada has an opportunity tonight to advance to the knockout stage of the 2024 Copa America – a line that still doesn’t feel like it makes a lot of sense, but one we would all love to see come to fruition. In their path is one more result, with a tie likely to be helpful and a win certain to get them over the hump. On the other side, though, lies a Chilean team in a very similar spot.
8:00 p.m. ET Headliner: Chile vs. Canada
Chile Win | +157 | Canada Win | +205 | Draw | +225 |
Over 2.5 Goals | -105 | Under 2.5 Goals | -118 | Broadcast | TSN |
The math for Canada to advance is fairly simple. If they win tonight, they move on and don’t have to wait for anyone else. If they draw, they’ll need Argentina to not fall asleep at the wheel and get a result against Peru. If they lose, they’re out, as Chile and potentially Peru will pass them.
For Chile, they need to win this game, and then have Argentina beat Peru to move on. So a win doesn’t get them through, but the game is a must win. You know for certain that they’ll be pressing in this one.
So far, it’s been a less-than-ideal tournament for Chile, who were originally favoured to finish second in the group. Their first game against Peru saw them control possession and passing, and they generated 11 attempted shots to Peru’s seven, but they couldn’t find the back of the net. In their next game against Argentina, they very nearly pulled out a draw but conceded a goal in the final minutes of the game that gave their foes a win that, quite honestly, they probably deserved. It was far from Chile’s best night on the pitch, with possession being nearly two-thirds in Argentina’s favour and the shots sitting at a whopping 22-3.
They’ll also face some adversity tonight, as their refusal to follow the game schedule and show up on the pitch at the proper time has led to head coach Ricardo Gareca being suspended from tonight’s game.
Canada comes in feeling good after a tightly-contested game against Peru, where Jonathan David scored the team’s first goal under head coach Jesse Marsch in the 74th minute to lead them to a 1-0 victory. A red card to Miguel Araujo fifteen minutes prior gave them an 11-on-10 advantage, and they were able to take advantage. They’ll be hoping to maintain that scoring touch, if not build on it tonight.
Game Bets To Consider
- If you think that Jonathan David can repeat his magic shown in the game against Peru, Betano has you covered with Super Enhanced odds. His normal +255 rate for an anytime goal is up to +345.
- Expect a desperate game, with both teams having a lot of incentive to get the full three points, along with Canada’s innate aggression and Chile’s likely tinge of disorganization without their manager. In other words, I’m looking at the total goals over at -105. You could combo the over it with Both Teams to Score to hedge your bet a bit, coming in at -192 on Yes. Only one of the results has to hit to get a win.

Argentina vs. Peru, 8:00 p.m. ET
Argentina has already locked in their path to the Copa America quarter-finals after followup up a win against Canada with a victory against Chile. It wasn’t the easiest path by result, as it took a Lautaro Martinez goal in the 88th minute to get to victory, but their performance was still dominant all round.
This poses the question – will Argentina, who are sitting out Lionel Messi, take this game seriously with little to play for, or will they be caught off guard? We saw this scenario play out in EURO 2024 a few days ago when an already-clinched Portugal was shell-shocked by Georgia. Despite it not having much implication for their spot on the table, you can tell there was a level of embarrassment that came from the result. If anyone on this Argentinian team saw that play out, they likely won’t want to feel the same way, especially going into knockouts.
With that in mind, I’d expect them to take it seriously, and with that in mind, this should be a result for the favourites, who have rarely had trouble against this Peruvian squad. In their last matchup back in October, Argentina won 2-0. Peru will no doubt play desperate, as a win is realistically their only shot at making it out of the groups, but the odds are stacked against them.
Game Bet To Consider: I’m also inclined to take both teams to score in this game. Yes, it’s a repeat, but for good reason. Peru will press hard in this game because they have little to no choice, and that could lead to them getting on the board. It will almost definitely be responded to, but it should

Latest Copa America Futures Odds
Here are the latest Copa America outright odds heading into the matches on June 25:
Team | Last Match | Team | Last Match | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Argentina | +180 | +175 | USA | +2900 | +1700 |
Brazil | +255 | +260 | Mexico | +2900 | +1900 |
Uruguay | +400 | +450 | Chile | +3400 | +2900 |
Colombia | +650 | +800 | Canada | +5900 | +9900 |
There isn’t much movement for the big four – a decent hop for Colombia, but other than that, the tweaks have been on the fringes. Poor results from the USA and Mexico have lengthened their futures odds significantly in recent days. Canada makes a big jump but remains a significant underdog to win it all.
