Jon Rahm’s Return Makes Him the Favourite at the Northern Trust
Excluding some issues with positive Covid-19 tests, Jon Rahm’s PGA season has been as stellar as anyone. Rahm enters the Northern Trust Open fifth on the FedEx Cup Standings, thanks to a PGA Tour leading 12 top-10 finishes. Golf betting odds have him as the favourite going into the tournament.

Look for Brooks Koepka to Finish the Year Strong
It has been quite the calendar year for Brooks Koepka – whose feud with Bryson DeChambeau has overshadowed another productive season from the four-time Major winner. Brooks Koepka enters the FedEx Playoffs 15th in the standings – after a season with eight top-ten finishes, including a win at the Waste Management Open and a second at the PGA Championship (and WGC Workday Championship).
Koepka’s success this season has much to do with his strokes gained: off-the-tee (11th this year at .621) and strokes gained: total (seventh at 1.560). His strong play this season is why he ranks so high in the standings despite playing fewer events (tied with Lee Westwood at 17) than any other golfer in the top-50.
Koepka is also known to shine his brightest when the stakes are the highest. He is the best golfer on the Tour at Majors – when it comes to the best score to par – dating back to 2015. He showed it when he finished second at the PGA Championship, then again with a fourth and sixth at the 2021 US Open and 2021 Open Championship, respectively.
Patrick Reed Won at the Liberty National Golf Course in 2019
Although Patrick Reed did not match the success of Jon Rahm or Brooks Koepka this season – Patrick Reed’s been one of the more under-the-radar golfers in 2020-21. Reed finished 22nd on the FedEx Cup standings, thanks to six top-ten finishes and a win at the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open.
Patrick Reed is also the reigning champ of the Northern Trust Open when they play it at Liberty National Golf Course. In 2019, Reed outplayed Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth in the final two rounds to capture the title with a -16.
Reed will need to be at his best this season to have a chance to repeat at Liberty National Golf Course. When at his best, he is one of the top golfers this season in strokes gained: around-the-green ranking 12th at .365.
He is also one of the best putters this year – ranking second in putting average at 1.709, and sixth in strokes gained: putting .677. If he can get the drive working on the long par 4s at the course, he could be in line to win again come Sunday.
