Tiger-Cats vs Alouettes: CFL East Final at Tim Hortons Field
It may have taken forever to build but Hamilton is happy that Tim Hortons Field is finally open. After playing 12 straight “home” games at various University stadiums, the Tiger-Cats are percolating as they have won their first six games in their new ballpark. They look to make it lucky number seven as they host Montreal on Sunday. Hamilton last hosted a CFL East Final way back in 1998 when they defeated Montreal 22-20. With identical 9-9 records, both teams took a “it’s not how you start – it’s how you finish” approach to their season.
Late blooming squads are running hot so something has to give here
Hamilton is on a 7-2 run and coming off a bye week while Montreal is on a 9-2 roll including a 50-17 blowout win over BC to open the playoffs last weekend. The season series was split as the Alouettes won the first game 38-31 in Week 11 while the Tiger-Cats posted a 29-15 victory two weeks ago. Hamilton’s combined 60-53 score in the two regular season games earned the Cats home field advantage in this contest. Hamilton scored a 19-16 OT win over Montreal in the East semifinal last season and we expect another close CFL playoff battle on Sunday.
CFL East Final Prediction
Both teams have been playing fairly stout defense coming into this contest and we expect that trend will continue on Sunday. Hamilton has unfinished business after they were crushed in the Grey Cup last year – Montreal just keeps winning. With these clubs parallel on so many planes, a late field goal may decide this game. We’ll take the points and back Montreal with a 300 unit wager at William Hill.
