California Chrome: Will breath easy in the Belmont Stakes
Though we highly doubted it would happen – a $10.50 nasal strip, invented by two equine veterinarians, almost cost horse racing fans their Triple Crown Dream. However, thanks to some level headed (no-brainer) thinking by the New York State Racing Association, everyone can breath easy knowing that Califronia Chrome is now scheduled to race for the US Triple Crown on June 7, 2014, at Belmont Park. Still not over the heartbreak of the amazing I’ll Have Another being a Belmont Stakes eve scratch – it was the right and only thing his owner J. Paul Reddam could do – we hope that all goes right for CC at Belmont Park in the days leading up to the big race.
Rags to Riches swathed Triple Crown: The World will be watching
Horse racing fans or not, millions of people from across the planet will be focused on Belmont Park in Elmont, NY, on the first Saturday in June. Hoping to join legends such as Affirmed, Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Citation, as a US Triple Crown Champion, California Chrome cost his owners Steve Coburn and Perry Martin $8,000 for Love The Chase (mare) and $2,500 for breeding rights to his sire Lucky Pulpit. In terms of global horse breeding bucks, $10,500 is couch cushion change. Coburn and Martin, both “work-a-day” gentlemen, were labeled as dumb-asses for buying Love The Chase but, prior to the Santa Anita Derby, they refused an offer of $6 million for their prized chestnut colt – now said to be worth $30 million. It’s an amazing story – stay tuned for our Act III predictions. Editors Note: While we suggest bettors wait until the horses are confirmed for the 136th the Belmont Stakes, here are the opening fixed odds available at the SportsInteraction Sportsbook. CC is very deserving top chalk. We will be backing California Chrome when the Test of the Champion heads to the starting gate on June 7, 2014.
