The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans will play host to Super Bowl LIX, the eighth time the venue has hosted the NFL‘s Big Game. Kansas City opened as a small one-point favourite (-120 on the moneyline) over Philadelphia at most sportsbooks once the dust settled on the conference championship games last Sunday.

“We expect the talk about the Chiefs’ potential three-peat to command attention for the next two weeks,” said Joey Feazel, head of football at Caesars Sportsbook in an email release to Canada Sports Betting. “These are two very popular teams with the betting public, so we’re happy to see them face off on the biggest stage in Super Bowl LIX inside the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Before the playoffs started, we would have had the Eagles as a favorite in this game, but the Chiefs have opened with a slight edge as a one-point favorite, given how they have played in the playoffs. There is a lot of star power in this Super Bowl, and we can’t wait to start pricing up our prop bets in anticipation of what we expect to be our biggest prop betting menu to date.”

However, shortly after opening the game, Caesars immediately began to take heavy action on the Chiefs, forcing oddsmakers to move the line to KC -2.

“The early action has been very much on the side of the Chiefs representing approximately a 65/35 split on the Chiefs moneyline and spread.,” Feazel continued. “We expect this to continue throughout the week as the Chiefs are striving for that coveted three-peat that has never been done in NFL history.”

The Chiefs opened as 1.5-point favourites (-125 on the moneyline) at BetMGM, and that line is holding as of Tuesday morning. The game total, however, opened at 48.5 points and action on the over has moved that number to 49.5.

“Early action is on the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl, and from a futures perspective, the Eagles are the best outcome. The sportsbook will be cheering for the Birds and the under,” BetMGM Trading Manager Halvor Egeland told CSB.

The Chiefs are favoured by as much as 2.5 points at some online sportsbooks, including Betano, as of Tuesday morning.

  • This is poised to be the 16th straight Super Bowl with the favourite laying seven or fewer points, extending the longest streak in the game’s history.
  • Underdogs have covered the spread in 16 of the past 24 Super Bowls, including the last two seasons when the Chiefs pulled outright upsets over the San Francisco 49ers and Eagles.
  • Favourites are 36-22 (29-27-2 ATS) all-time.
  • The Chiefs will be wearing white jerseys. Of the previous 58 Super Bowls, the winner wore white in 37 games (64%), according to BetMGM.
