About the Buccaneers (4-4 SU, 4-4 ATS, 6-2 o/u)

After getting out to a hot start to begin their 2024 campaign, the Buccaneers have cooled off slightly as we reach the halfway mark of the regular season. Coming off of back-to-back losses to Super Bowl contending teams in the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens, the Buccaneers are in desperate need of a jolt of confidence.

From a betting perspective, the Buccaneers have been average, having won and covered the spread in 50% of their games played. An area where the Buccaneers have shined this season, however, comes from their ability to hit the Over on the projected point total.

Having exceeded the line set by oddsmakers in six out of their eight games played so far this season, the Bucs have been no strangers to high-scoring affairs. Sporting a top-five scoring offence in the NFL this season, it’s no question that the identity of this team lays within their ability to put up points.

About the Chiefs (7-0 SU, 5-2 ATS, 3-4 o/u)

Still riding the high of their second consecutive Super Bowl victory, the Chiefs are once again looking like the team to beat in the NFL. Having gone undefeated through their first seven games of the season, the Chiefs’ unbeaten streak technically dates all the way back to Christmas Day of 2023, as their last loss came against the Las Vegas Raiders in a holiday bash.

Looking to keep their lengthy winning streak alive, the Chiefs have somewhat altered their winning formula from the past. While they previously were known for their aggressive downfield tactics in order to put teams on their heels, the Chiefs have adopted a more smashmouth style to their offensive game plan.

With superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the midst of a down year, the Chiefs have opted to instead move the ball on the ground or through short, high-percentage passes. While this has been their key to success in 2024, don’t get it twisted, the Chiefs still have the ability to rip off big yardage whenever necessary.

Line Movement

Opening in the offseason at -7 in favour of the Chiefs, the line has been in a constant state of fluctuation. The line rose all the way to -9 for the Chiefs in late October and that’s where it sits now.

The point total has also seen some movement as it opened at 47 total points, before plummeting to 44 in October. Since then, the line has bounced between 45 and 46 points but appears to have settled at 45.5 points.

Key Injuries

For the Buccaneers, they have suffered massive blows due to injuries in recent weeks. After placing wide receiver Chris Godwin on IR with a season-ending ankle injury, the Bucs also will be without star wideout Mike Evans for Monday Night Football.

Having gone through a plethora of injuries throughout the 2024 season, the Chiefs once again have a long list of players on their injury report. Key players listed as out include WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, and DE Michael Danna.

Weather

Weather could potentially play a factor at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday Night Football as the forecast projects a 70% chance of light rain throughout the matchup. Rainy and wet playing conditions could help the under in hitting as turnovers may become more frequent, as well as more difficult for receivers to hold onto passes.

  • Since 2021, both the Buccaneers and Chiefs are 5-0 in non-conference games.
  • Since 2023, the Buccaneers are 7-2 ATS as away underdogs.
  • The Chiefs have a 6-10-1 record ATS as favourites since 2022.
  • Since 2023, the Chiefs have finished eight of their nine games at home under the projected point total.
  • Bucky Irving currently has his rushing yard total set at 31.5 yards, a mark he has surpassed in six of his eight games played in 2024.
  • Baker Mayfield has thrown for 300+ yards in three straight games.
  • Kareem Hunt has scored a touchdown in three straight games coming into Monday Night Football. He is priced at -138 to hit paydirt against the Buccaneers.
  • Over his last four games played, Travis Kelce has averaged 66.5 receiving yards. His line is currently set at 59.5 yards, a mark he’s exceed in three of his last four appearances.

Buccaneers vs. Chiefs Predictions

  • As the Bucs enter into one of the most hostile environments in the NFL, look for them to crumble under the bright lights of primetime as the Chiefs cover the spread on Monday Night Football. While this spread would be far too rich if both teams were at full strength, with the Buccaneers set to play without their star wide receiver tandem of Godwin & Evans, the Bucs offence may be stagnant over the course of the contest. Look for the Chiefs to control the tempo of the game from start to finish as they secure the win in dominant fashion as they cover the nine-point spread.
  • Another bet that would look different if both sides were healthy, the Under is the way to go for this tilt. While the Buccaneers have been one of the best teams in the league at hitting the Over in 2024, this is sure to take a hit on Monday Night Football as they will be relying on second-stringers to provide offence. Pairing this with the Chiefs’ new methodical play style, look for the score to remain low as Under 45.5 points are scored in this Week 9 finale.
