After coming up short in the 2023 AFC Divisional round against the Baltimore Ravens, the Houston Texans made major upgrades in the offseason and are looking to make another deep run in the postseason as they hunt for their first Super Bowl victory in franchise history. Was last season a fluke? Or a sign of more to come? Only time will tell when it comes to the Texans.

Hoping to reclaim the top spot in the AFC South, the Jacksonville Jaguars are antsy to rid themselves of the bad taste from their mouths after dropping five of their last six games in the 2023 season and missing the playoffs entirely. With standout talents still on the roster, this could be a telling season for the Jaguars and their future development.

With the return of quarterback Anthony Richardson to their lineup, the Indianapolis Colts are hopeful for a bounce-back season in 2024. After just narrowly missing the postseason after finishing 9-8 in 2023, the Colts will look to progress their rebuild into the postseason behind their new franchise cornerstones.

Rounding out the AFC South are the new-look Tennessee Titans. After completely overhauling their roster in the offseason as we saw longtime mainstays Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry depart, the Titans appear ready to look towards the future rather than immediate success. Whether or not this was the right move, there are still several terrific betting markets open on the Titans’ 2024 season.

With kickoff fast approaching for the 2024 season, check out our expert insight and analysis on the AFC South betting odds below and net yourself a massive payday with our top predictions, projections, and prop bets.

Houston Texans

Super Bowl odds: +1600
To win conference odds: +800
Division odds: +105
Odds to make the playoffs: Yes (-190), No (+155)
Season win total: Over 9.5 (-145), Under 9.5 (+115)

2023 record: 10-7

Key additions: WR Stefon Diggs, CB Jeff Okudah, CB Mike Ford, LB Azeez Al-Shaair, P Tommy Townsend, CB C.J. Henderson

Key subtractions: LB Jonathan Greenard, LB Blake Cashman, CB Steven Nelson, LB Denzel Perryman, RB Devin Singletary, DT Sheldon Rankins, T George Fant

Most important game on the schedule: Scheduled to face one of the top contenders in the AFC, the Texans’ Week 5 matchup with the Buffalo Bills is sure to produce fireworks on the gridiron.

This home-field matchup will be the first time that Stefon Diggs will play against his former squad after being dealt this offseason for a 2025 second-round pick. Diggs, one of the most fiery players in the NFL, and his new Texans brethren are sure to make this matchup personal as they look to pick up a massive victory early on in the season.

This matchup will also feature a head-to-head clash between two of the top quarterbacks in the game as C.J. Stroud will look to best the Bills’ Josh Allen. With two electric offences set to square off, there’s sure to be no shortage of highlight reel moments within this high-stakes showdown.

The Bills and Texans are both hoping to make a deep run in this year’s playoffs and a win in head-to-head competition could potentially go a long way down the stretch of the 2024 NFL season.

Prop to watch: After cementing himself as one of the best young talents in the NFL during his rookie year, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud could be set for a huge year in which he captures the league MVP Award.

After passing for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns in his first NFL season, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year is primed to continue his success as a potential Super Bowl contender in 2024. After leading the Texans to double-digit wins for the first time since 2019, the Ohio State product could be ready to take his game to an elite level.

This offseason the Texans went out and spared no expense to make their team as competitive as possible, including adding running back Joe Mixon, as well as the blockbuster trade to acquire star wideout, Stefon Diggs. The Texans possess one of the top wide receiver groups in the NFL with Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell, making their offensive unit one of the most dangerous squads in the entire league.

If Stroud is able to once again lead the Texans to a strong finish in the 2024 season, it is all but certain that he will be one of the top contenders to take home the 2024 NFL MVP.

Currently priced at +1000 odds, Stroud has the fourth-best odds to win NFL MVP behind only Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow. Still holding tremendous value, bettors should take this prop bet under serious consideration as the second-year player looks to make the leap into superstar status this season.

Potential breakout player: Set to take the reigns of the Texans defence this season, look for middle linebacker Christian Harris to break out in his 2024 campaign.

With an abundance of responsibility placed at his feet, look for the third-year player out of Alabama to have a career year in 2024. After hitting 100 combined tackles for the first time in his career last season, Harris has proven himself to be a versatile player across the field. Able to hit gaps hard as a pass-rusher, as well as a smart pass-coverage defender, his dual-threat ability will make him a pivotal part of the Texans’ defensive success this year.

After losing several veteran linebackers in the offseason, it is clear that the Texans are ready to place Harris into a prominent role, allowing him the opportunity to showcase his top-tier potential to the rest of the league. With high hopes for the 2024 season, look for Harris to command the Texans defence as they look to once again make their return to the NFL playoffs.

Betting projection: Easily one of the top teams in the NFL this season, don’t hold back in your support of the Texans. Playing within a somewhat weak division, the Texans could be poised to sweep their divisional matchups, spotting them an easy six wins. While they have several tough matchups on the season docket in 2024, look for them to be up for the challenge as they remain competitive and win the AFC South (+105).

While they may be a young team, they have already proven that they are ready for the biggest stage the NFL has to offer. There could be value in getting in on the Texans’ odds to win their conference, or the Super Bowl, prior to the season kickoff, as this price is sure to shrink as they continue to establish themselves as one of the top teams to beat in the AFC.

Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +120, No -150

2023 record: 9-8

Key additions: DT Arik Armstead, WR Gabe Davis, C Mitch Morse, S Darnell Savage, CB Ronald Darby

Key subtractions: WR Calvin Ridley, K Brandon McManus, CB Darious Williams, S Rayshawn Jenkins

Most important game on the schedule: Set to get their first taste of divisional play in Week 4 on the road, the Jaguars will take on the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium.

In 2023, the Jaguars split the season series with the Texans 1-1. With the Texans having greatly improved while the Jaguars’ roster still remains largely the same, a win here could be massive towards their hopes of winning the AFC South. With plenty of competition for a Wild Card spot within the AFC, the Jags’ best bet to make the postseason is through a divisional championship.

If they are going to make their return to the postseason after their tumultuous free fall down the season standings late last year, the Jaguars will need to quickly make an impact by picking up a big win against their toughest competition in their division.

Be sure to circle this Week 4 matchup on your calendars as the Jaguars hope to prove that they’re the team to beat in the AFC South.

Prop to watch: A terrific moneymaking prop bet to watch for the Jaguars 2024 season is for running back Travis Etienne Jr. to score 10+ rushing touchdowns.

Coming off of a 2023 campaign that saw the speedy rusher rack up 11 touchdowns on the ground, look for him to continue making a major impact on the Jaguars offence in his third season as a pro. Currently listed at +300 to hit paydirt 10+ times in the 2023 season, there’s tons of value to redeem when it comes to this prop bet.

Back the former Clemson Tiger to continue cementing himself as one of the top running backs in the NFL this season as he handles the bulk of red zone touches for the Jags, putting points on the board, and money in your pocket as he records 10+ rushing touchdowns in 2024.

Potential breakout player: Hoping to grow into the wide receiver of the future for the Jaguars, rookie wideout Brian Thomas Jr. could be set for a big rookie season in 2024.

After being selected with the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of LSU, Thomas Jr. came as one of the most highly-touted wide receivers in the latest crop of NFL talent. Coming off of a sensational season with the Tigers after recording 1,177 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in just 13 games, the speedster could be an immediate impact player for the Jaguars.

With an aging receiving core outside of him, Thomas Jr. fits not only the Jaguars’ timeline perfectly, but their offensive game plan as well. With quarterback Trevor Lawrence loving to throw the deep ball, look for him and Thomas Jr. to link up routinely throughout the 2024 season.

Potentially the next great NFL wide receiver, keep a close eye on Brian Thomas Jr. this season as he looks to make a name for himself in his rookie season and his NFL career.

Betting projection: While the Jaguars have made some solid moves in the offseason, overall, they still aren’t good enough to be considered playoff threats. With Trevor Lawrence still having failed to prove he has elite talent at the pro level, as well as sporting one of the worst defences in the NFL, look for the Jaguars to struggle to put together wins in 2024.

While they certainly have some solid building blocks as they look towards the future, this season could prove to be a disappointing one for the Jags.

Fade the Jaguars in the 2024 NFL season by betting them to miss the playoffs at a solid -150. Steer clear of their win-loss betting market as they are once again set for a middle-of-the-pack finish, hovering around the .500 mark as they did last year.

Key subtractions: QB Gardner Minshew, RB Zach Moss, WR Isaiah McKenzie

Most important game on the schedule: Looking to follow in their opponents’ footsteps, the Colts will have a massive opportunity to put the NFL on notice in Week 2 as they take on the Green Bay Packers.

As they hope to see a major leap in success with quarterback Anthony Richardson back in the driver’s seat for the Colts, this early clash with the Packers will be a good indication of where the team is projected to finish in the 2024 season. After the Packers were able to make a deep playoff run with their young core, the Colts will use this matchup to test themselves and their young team to see if they can produce similar results in the AFC this season.

With a big win early on in their 2024 campaign, this could provide a major confidence boost throughout their roster as they look to shock the NFL world and break into the playoff picture this season.

Prop to watch: While wins may be scarce in the 2024 season for the Colts, look for quarterback Anthony Richardson to hold major upside this season. He is set for his first full year as the starting quarterback, and if he can remain healthy, look for Richardson to be a legitimate candidate for Offensive Player of the Year honours.

Possessing an exciting play style that sees him produce both through the air and on the ground, Richardson is poised to produce the bulk of offensive production for his team. With dependable wide receivers and a standout running back in Jonathan Taylor at his disposal, the young QB is in a terrific spot to succeed early in his NFL career.

Currently priced at +4000 odds to win the OPOY, the former Florida Gator could be ready to emerge as yet another terrific dual-threat talent, continuing the trend in the modern NFL.

Potential breakout player: After a solid rookie season with the Colts, look for wide receiver Josh Downs to break out for the Colts in 2024. After hauling in 771 yards in his first NFL season, look for Downs to continue to blossom in the Colts system.

Playing alongside proven pass-catcher Michael Pittman Jr., look for Downs to find ample opportunity to find gaps in the secondary as the bulk of attention goes to the star receiver. With more potential for open looks, as well as coming into the Colts in the same rookie draft class, look for Downs to quickly build a rapport with Anthony Richardson as they connect repeatedly throughout the season.

Buy some stock in Josh Downs while it’s low. Watch his career take off in his second season, as he emerges as a new offensive threat within the Colts lineup.

Betting projection: After a quiet offseason that saw the Colts more or less sit on their hands, keep low expectations when it comes to team success for them in 2024.

With plenty of question marks swirling around the team’s current outlook, as Anthony Richardson has only four career games played under his belt, while neither their offence or defence saw any noticeable improvement from their 2023 roster that finished a mediocre 9-8. With this being said, it’s safe to assume the Colts will not perform any better than they did a season ago.

Fade the Colts this season as they miss out on the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year, failing to win more than 8.5 games, notching you a solid -130 payout for those that bet the Under on their regular season win tally.

Division odds: +900
Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +400, No -600
Season win total: Over 6.5 (+105), Under 6.5 (-135)

2023 record: 6-11

Key additions: RB Tony Pollard, WR Calvin Ridley, WR Tyler Boyd, C Lloyd Cushenberry III, DT Sebastian Joseph-Day, CB L’Jarious Snead, CB Chidobe Awuzie, LB Kenneth Murray II

Key subtractions: QB Ryan Tannehill, RB Derrick Henry, T Andre Dillard, LB Azeez Al-Shaair, CB Sean Murphy-Bunting, CB Kristan Fulton

Most important game on the schedule: The 2024 Titans season is sure to be a challenging one for fans and players alike, making Week 9 their most important game on their schedule as they take on the New England Patriots.

In a battle between rebuilding squads, the two teams holding the worst odds of winning the Super Bowl in the AFC will square off to prove they’re not the worst team within their conference. With each team undergoing a major rebuild from top to bottom, this game will be an indicator to see which team is further along in their current roster reconstruction.

While this may not be the sexiest game on the 2024 calendar, the Titans vs. Patriots showdown will serve as the proverbial “Toilet Bowl” matchup as each squad fights for their pride, hoping to avoid an embarrassing last-place finish in the AFC standings.

Prop to watch: Likely not where he wants to be in his 12th NFL season, don’t sleep on the production of all-time great DeAndre Hopkins with the Titans this season. Currently projected to record 950.5 receiving yards in 2024, bank on him to hit the Over on this mark, scoring you a juicy +130 payout as a result.

After racking up 1,057 receiving yards in his first season in the Music City, Hopkins continued to serve as a dependable pass-catcher even in his advanced age. With his glue-like hands seemingly never going to vanish, Hopkins made magic throughout their 2024 season as he seemingly created first downs out of thin air.

With the Titans in desperate need of a leader in their current rebuilding stage, look for Hopkins to be featured within their offensive game plan often in 2024, racking up easy catches as he once again eclipses 1,000 yards through the air. Hopkins has only failed to record Over 950.5 receiving yards twice in his last seven seasons, both of those instances seeing him play less than 11 games.

This profitable prop betting market may become even more attractive as the Titans may look to move the veteran receiver before the trade deadline, helping them gain assets toward their rebuild, as D-Hop finds his way on a contending team in the twilight of his Hall of Fame career.

Bet the Over on Hopkins’ receiving yards tally this season as he continues to defy his age and put up strong numbers in his 2024 campaign.

Potential breakout player: Looking to secure his spot as the quarterback of the future in Tennessee, look for Will Levis to put together a strong showing in his 2024 season.

After emerging as a solid starter for the Titans in 2023, Levis racked up 1,808 passing yards with eight touchdowns in just nine games played in his rookie campaign. While the Titans may not be expected to compete for a title in 2024, Levis certainly can take this opportunity to showcase his skillset.

A grinder of a game manger, Levis is not afraid to stand in the pocket and take a hit if it means delivering a well-thrown ball downfield. The same can be said about the former Kentucky Wildcat and his scrambling style, not shy to drop his shoulder into defenders if it means gaining an extra yard.

As the Titans are likely set to be playing from behind in the majority of their upcoming matchups, look for Levis to take full advantage of these low expectations, and to take risks and build upon his game in a development year for the Titans. Set for a big year as the unquestioned starter, look for Levis to prove he has what it takes to start at the NFL level with the Titans in 2024.

Betting projection: Oddsmakers may have hit the nail on the head with their current projections for the Titans in 2024. An easy pick to finish last within the AFC South, the Titans are sure to be force-fed a healthy dosage of losses this season. After only managing to scrap together six wins in 2023, look for them to win even fewer this season, as they win Under 6.5 games.

While the silver lining of this season will be looking towards the 2025 NFL Draft, it may be a tough on-field product to watch for Titans faithful. Better days may be on the horizon for the Titans, but this season is sure to be a test of their fans will as they finish in the basement of the AFC South.
