We’re down to four teams battling for the 111th Grey Cup after the Toronto Argonauts and Saskatchewan Roughriders took care of business last week in the Division Semi-Finals.
Toronto won a 58-38 shootout with the Ottawa Redblacks to advance to the Eastern Final against the host Montreal Alouettes, while Saskatchewan rallied in the second half to pull out a 28-19 victory over the BC Lions for the right to square off with the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg in the Western Final.
Both CFL Division Finals games will be played on Saturday, and the two winners will compete in the 111th Grey Cup on Nov. 17 in British Columbia.
Here’s a look at the latest Grey Cup outright odds courtesy of bet365:
Team | Outright Odds |
Winnipeg Blue Bombers | +165 |
Montreal Alouettes | +210 |
Toronto Argonauts | +260 |
Saskatchewan Roughriders | +550 |
Toronto Argonauts @ Montreal Alouettes – Nov. 9
Best moneyline odds: Alouettes -120 (Sports Interaction), Argonauts +115 (Betway)
Best spread odds: Alouettes -1.5 (-115 @ bet365), Argonauts +2.5 (-110 @ Sports Interaction)
Best over/under odds: Over 52 points (-110 @ bet365), under 52.5 points (-110 @ Sports Interaction)
The Argos took the season series 2-1, dropping their Week 4 meeting with the Als, 30-20, before rebounding to take a Week 6 encounter in Montreal, 37-18, then defending their home turf in Week 17 with a 37-31 victory. The teams combined to play over the total in two of those three games.
Toronto has some serious momentum coming into this matchup, claiming wins in four of its last five games, with its only loss coming to Edmonton in a meaningless contest during the final week of the regular season. Montreal, meanwhile, closed out the regular season with losses in three of its final four games after opening the season 10-1. Momentum matters this time of the year, and the Argos are playing with confidence, not to mention they have the psychological edge after taking the season series with Montreal.
Best bet: This should be a very close Eastern Final, but the underdog Argos with the points is the play here. Monitor the spread throughout the week and try to get Toronto at +3, if possible, or bite the bullet and buy the half point for some extra protection.
Bet on Argonauts vs. Alouettes
TOR +2.5
MTL -2.5
Saskatchewan Roughriders @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers – Nov. 9
Best moneyline odds: Blue Bombers -209 (Pinnacle), Roughriders +190 (bet365)
Best spread odds: Blue Bombers -3.5 (-114 @ Pinnacle), Roughriders +4.5 (-110 @ Sports Interaction)
Best over/under odds: Over 47.5 points (-110 @ bet365), Under 48 points (-108 @ Pinnacle)
The Blue Bombers took the season series 2-1, taking the last meeting between these teams, 26-21, in Winnipeg back in Week 14. In Week 13, the Bombers won in Saskatchewan by a slim 35-33 margin. Saskatchewan claimed the first meeting back in Week 7 at home with an ugly 19-9 victory that featured seven field goals and one touchdown. The under cashed in two of the three regular season meetings, and Winnipeg covered the spread in both of its wins.
Both of these defences were elite during the regular season, with Winnipeg’s unit allowing a league-low 20.3 points per game, while Saskatchewan ranked first in rush defence, holding the opposition to just 80.3 yards per game. This should be a grind-it-out type of game that boils down to the final minutes to be decided.
Best bet: I think the Blue Bombers find a way to win this game outright at home, but take the Roughriders +4.5 to keep it close in what should be a three-point game or less.
