Is Sports Betting Legal In Ontario?
Ontario sports betting has been legal and regulated since April 4th, 2022. Today, the province features 30 legal iGaming operators including bet365, Bet99, BetMGM, and Betway. To date, Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission is the only provincial lottery authority to introduce regulations for private sportsbooks. Private book regulations enable the province of Ontario to collect tax revenue, and ensure player safety. These regulations protect players should any sportsbook refuse to pay out winnings, or conduct other forms of illegal activity. Today, all forms of sports betting are now legal in Ontario, including single game sports betting, parlays, casino games, and more.

🏈 Betting Markets & Odds
With more than 36 sports and countless leagues within each, all Ontario sports fans will find a market they’re searching for here. SIA Ontario has all the typical big leagues, but they’re also an excellent source of niche sports like Snooker, Gaelic Games, Winter Sports, and Motor Racing all year-round. Finally, Sports Interaction offers highly competitive odds in the Ontario sports betting space, doing an excellent job of maintaining (and beating) industry benchmarks — particularly for futures.
💲 Payment Options
Sports Interaction Ontario is a completely secure, trustworthy site with a number of encrypted banking options. Players can deposit and withdraw funds using Interac e-Transfer, Instadebit, Visa, Mastercard, and Debit cards. They do not charge any withdrawal or deposit fees, and keep minimums to $10.
🎧 Customer Support
You can contact SIA Ontario through their 24/7 chat service or via their toll-free phone number at 1-888-922-5575. Sports Interaction cannot be contacted via email at this time. As far as user experience goes, Sports Interaction offers an exceptionally well laid-out platform that is easy to read for all players. Our team found they offer just enough information on the homepage without overwhelming the user, and they make it easy to locate and click into any section for more bets.
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
Players must log in to use certain features at SIA, such as changing your odds format. As far as faults go, they don’t have many.

NorthStar sticks to the most common payment methods which will satisfy the average Ontario bettor. Currently to deposit or withdraw at NorthStar Bets, players can use: Interac e-Transfer, iDebit, Instadebit, Credit, e-Check, and Instant Bank Transfer.
🎧 Customer Support
Players can contact NorthStar Bets via phone at +1-855-218-7827, email at [email protected], or via ticket submission in the top right corner of their support page. As for user experience, we love what NorthStar Bets brings to the table. Sleek, simple, and easy to navigate, NorthStar is easy on the eyes and the mind when searching for those perfect odds.
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
The loading speed at NorthStar Bets Ontario is shockingly slow. Switching tabs between the sportsbook and casino section loads so slowly it makes a user question whether they changed tabs at all. While this isn’t a particularly pressing issue, it can certainly detract from the betting experience — particularly while trying to bet live.
3. bet365 Ontario
Best for league variety: 4.5/5
- Easy-to-use app & website
- Broad coverage of global events
- Operates under iGaming Ontario

🏈 Betting Markets & Odds
bet365 is often our go-to source for competitive betting odds. While they sometimes falter in their futures odds, bet365 typically always beats the competition for moneyline, totals, and spreads. Furthermore, bet365 is one of the most comprehensive books when it comes to league availability. Everything from the Super Bowl to politics to virtual darts makes the cut here. Unfortunately we have to dock bet365 marks for their speed in publishing odds, as sometimes they don’t publish until hours before a game.
💲 Payment Options
Bet365 is an incredibly trustworthy name in the industry, and as such offers an array of payment options to players, including: Interac, Visa, Mastercard, Instadebit, Apple Pay, Paysafecard, Payz, Click2Pay, and by Wire Transfer.
🎧 Customer Support
bet365 Ontario cannot be reached by phone, however it’s easy to get in touch with their team via the 24/7 live chat, or by email at [email protected]. The book itself is easy to navigate, and should be intuitive for all users.
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
To place a bet at bet365m bettors must download a location confirmation app. Boasting only a few stars in the App Store, this app is a little clunky and only serves the single purpose of confirming your bet.
4. Betway Ontario
Best for soccer betting: 4/5
- Exceptional live chat
- In-game ticket cash out
- Multiple banking methods
Betway Ontario is another excellent option now available to Canadian sports bettors, where players can access sports betting, casino games, a live casino, and Vegas-style games. This sportsbook not only offers sports typically found on online Ontario sportsbooks like hockey, football, and baseball, but they also have niche sports like volleyball, e-sports, and bandy. We’re confident Ontario bettors will find every league they could hope for at Betway.

🏈 Betting Markets & Odds
Betway offers highly competitive odds and is an excellent source to find valuable bets. Typically, Betway will offer higher odds on either the favourite or the underdog compared against other sportsbooks in Ontario. As for sports leagues, Betway offers just about every sport a bettor is interested in, though they lack some novelty markets. Where they really excel is in soccer, offering some of the largest soccer league variety across Canada.
💲 Payment Options
Betway makes sure they cater to all deposit and withdrawal preferences (although they’re still missing Cryptocurrency). Current payment options offered at Betway include: PaySafeCard, Instadebit, iDebit, Debit, Visa, Mastercard, Neosurf, Neteller, and Flexepin.
🎧 Customer Support
Lacking the the user experience department, Betway doesn’t make it easy to get in touch. For Ontario bettors, they offer a live chat option in the footer of the website. We did find the email [email protected], however this seems to be exclusive to United States visitors. Otherwise, bettors can get in touch via the FAQ section. Find an article that is most relevant to your question, then scroll to the bottom and select “yes” to the question “do you need more help?”. From there, you’ll be given the option to contact their team.
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
As mentioned above, the Betway customer service contact methods are a little under par. In addition, the site can sometimes be slow to load the log in screen — often freezing completely.
5. Pinnacle Ontario
Best for competitive odds: 4/5
- Lowest vig of all sportsbooks
- 24/7 live chat customer support
- Numerous banking options
Pinnacle sportsbook is a key player in the Ontario sports betting market (or you could say, they’re the pinnacle of Ontario sports betting). Known for their winner’s welcome mantra, Pinnacle attracts high-rollers with their high limits. In addition, Pinnacle regularly offer impressively low margins by reducing the juice they add on. For Ontario sports bettors, low margins means better payouts and highly competitive odds.
Read Full Pinnacle Review | No Pinnacle App
🏈 Betting Markets & Odds
Pinnacle offers the most competitive odds available to bet on in Ontario. Because of the low margins (and better odds) sports bettors are more likely to pull in a profit over time, as compared to other books that add a larger juice. You can find an A-Z list of available sports to bet on at Pinnacle, though the variety is somewhat limited compared to others. Where they make up for it is the large variety of prop and in-game markets offered within the leagues available.
💲 Payment Options
Pinnacle is a winner in the Ontario betting sites space when it comes to banking options. With 14 deposit and withdrawal options currently on their roster, including cryptocurrency, Pinnacle easily takes home first place for versatility. At this time, Pinnacle sportsbook accepts Visa, Mastercard, Neteller, Skirll, Payz, MuchBetter, Paysafecard, Neosurf, Interac e-transfer, Bitcoin, Litecoin, Instdebit, Etherum, and Tether.
🎧 Customer Support
Pinnacle offers a great sports betting Ontario resources section, including a number of betting tools. In addition, they have a large help section that answers nearly all frequently asked questions. When you navigate to the help section, you’re prompted to open a chat box right away — something we appreciate as other books tend to hide the “contact us” feature.
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
Pinnacle does not offer an app for any device at this time. While they do have an excellent mobile website, it’s hard to beat an app.
6. Bet99 Ontario
Best user experience: 4/5
- Canadian-focused betting site
- Easy-to-navigate website
- Exceptional betting app
Launched in 2019 to the Canadian market and regulated in 2022, Bet99 offers a large selection of popular sports leagues, and up-and-coming leagues like Esports. Bet99 offers a particularly impressive selection of prop bets, which we found sets them apart from other Ontario sportsbooks available on the market. In addition, Bet99 really sets themselves apart through their highly user-friendly mobile app experience, something that not all sportsbooks have yet to master.

🏈 Betting Markets & Odds
Bet99 Ontario offers competitively priced betting odds that benchmark well against the competition. Bet99 makes our list of Ontario sportsbooks we frequently compare odds to. In terms of betting markets, Bet99 is a superstar for offering a large variety of obscure leagues from around the world, in addition to the usual suspects.
💲 Payment Options
Currently, Bet99 banking options include Interac, Interac Desjardins, Instadebit, Instant bank transfer, PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard. Payments are encrypted at Bet99 and players will not be charged any fees to deposit or withdraw.
🎧 Customer Support
Bet99 offers players a sleek, easy to navigate betting experience that puts them in the #1 spot for design. We like their in-depth navigation and thorough Ontario sports betting FAQ, both of which make for a smooth experience. If you run into an issue, players can use the AI chat feature to quickly get help — located in the top right corner of Bet99’s site. Alternatively, players can contact Bet99 customer support via email at [email protected], or via live chat.
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
Bet99 removed their app from the Google Play store, as reviews averaged a measly 2 stars. We hope to see them launch a new app in the near future.
7. PowerPlay Ontario
Best for novelty bets: 4/5
- 24/7 live chat customer support
- Canadian owned and operated
- Great live betting platform
PowerPlay is a Canadian owned and operated sportsbook that’s relatively new to the market. PowerPlay makes our top Ontario sportsbooks list for some key features they offer Ontario bettors, such as their 24/7 customer service availability, their specialized VIP program, and their live HD casino games. Furthermore, PowerPlay has more than 150 leagues available for Ontario sports bettors, offering some of the most extensive sports coverage in the market.
🏈 Betting Markets & Odds
PowerPlay’s Ontario sportsbook hits every major category of sports league. Bettors can find a decently sized list of niche sports such as Rugby, Esports, Virtual Sports, and much more. As for odds, players may occasionally find a value bet or a good deal, however we find PowerPlay tends to match the odd setters pretty closely. Where they excel is in novelty bets — for example offering a wide selection of Taylor Swift Super Bowl bets.
💲 Payment Options
For banking options, PowerPlay offers all the usual suspects in addition to cryptocurrency. Ontario betting sites that allow for crypto currencies for both deposits and withdrawals are few and far between, making PowerPlay one of the top choices for crypto bettors. In all, the payment options available at PowerPlay include: Interac e-transfer, Visa, Mastercard, Bitcoin, MuchBetter, Paysafecard, Litecoin, Ethereum, and XRP.
🎧 Customer Support
While not as sleek in appearance as some of our other betting sites, PowerPlay knocks it out of the park on the customer service front. To contact the customer service team at PowerPlay Ontario, bettors can reach out via 24/7 live chat, Facebook, email at [email protected], or by phone at +1-833-578-1331. In addition, PowerPlay has one of the most thorough, easy-to-read betting FAQs we’ve seen, which also gives them major bonus points.
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
Powerplay has a stunning lack of real estate actually dedicated to sports on each page. For instance, the homepage only features a handful of betting odds and leagues. Instead, the page is filled with casino ads and written copy that, let’s be honest, most bettors aren’t there to read.
8. TonyBet Ontario
Best live betting: 4/5
- Detailed stats, performance data, and analysis section
- esports betting leader with numerous betting markets
- Offers a sports betting VIP program
Somewhat new to the Ontario betting scene, TonyBet has quickly scaled the ranks and come out as a top player in the Ontario sports betting market. Dating back to 2003 in the UK, TonyBet brings a wealth of industry experience in the casino space which they’ve now applied to sports betting. Known for their live betting market availability and Esports wagering, they easily make our list of best Ontario betting sites.

🏈 Betting Markets & Odds
TonyBet is a soccer fan’s dream. While most Ontario sportsbooks showcase the top North American leagues (such as the NFL, NHL, MLB, etc) at the top of the homepage, TonyBet has a soft spot for soccer. If you scroll a few times past the (seemingly endless) soccer leagues, you’ll find every other Ontario sports league under the sun. As for odds and markets, you’ll find tons of competitive options — particular in the live betting category.
💲 Payment Options
TonyBet offers the most variety of payment options in Canada, and tons of crypto betting. Currently, bettors at TonyBet Ontario can use the following to make deposit and withdrawals: Visa, Mastercard, Interac e-Transfer, Payz, Instadebit, iDebit, Astropay, MuchBetter, Paysafecard, Neteller, Neosurf, Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, XRP, Tether, and Tron.
🎧 Customer Support
TonyBet’s live user experience makes them one of the best on the market. They offer a stunning live betting odds section where players can watch the odds change for better or worse in real-time. As for customer support, TonyBet players can get in touch via live 24/7 chat, or via email at [email protected].
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
Some players may find the odds at TonyBet to be fairly overwhelming. TonyBet shows a significant amount of data at once, which may hinder a bettor’s ability to quickly find the odds they’re looking for.
9. Proline Ontario
The original Ontario sportsbook: 4/5
- Simple sportsbook with streamlined navigation
- Provides bettors tips and guides
- Responsive sports betting mobile app
Next on our list is Proline Ontario — otherwise known as their original Ontario online sports betting site. While new, privatized online sportsbooks in Ontario are incredibly fun for bettors to get in on, the Ontario betting community should be familiar with Proline Sportsbook, as for many years it was the best sportsbook Ontario had, and was the only legal way to bet on sports in the province. Many think of Ontario sports betting as synonymous with Proline, but this is no longer the case since the launch of Ontario’s regulated sports betting market.
🏈 Betting Markets & Odds
Proline has all the major leagues and sports Ontario sports betting sites should have — minus some novelty or niche leagues. Notable leagues Proline+ is lacking include Virtual or Esports, Gaelic Games, Aussie Rules, Lacrosse, Handball, Horses, or Greyhounds. Proline Ontario, instead, is hyper focused on the leagues that most Ontario bettors are interested in like football, soccer, baseball, hockey, and basketball.
💲 Payment Options
Proline+ offers very few payment options. At this time, players can deposit or withdraw funds at Proline+ using Visa, MasterCard, and Debit. They also allow bettors to use gift cards, but only at in-store locations.
🎧 Customer Support
Proline+ boasts a sleek, black and green style that mimics our best sportsbooks on this list. We’re big fans of the Proline+ user experience which has garnered them an overall good reviews score from our team. Everything on their site is easy to find and fairly straightforward, and they have tons of information on where to find them in-store (if that’s your thing). If you need to get in touch with Proline, you can do so via their live chat feature, or by phone at 1-855-978-7529. Their live chat is available in English 24/7, or in French from 8am to 4pm EST.
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
The Proline+ FAQ section is clunky and difficult to navigate, and rarely seems to satisfy user queries. We’d like to see their team redo the FAQ section with more comprehensive answers.
10. BetMGM Ontario
Best betting app: 4/5
- Multiple Banking Options Available
- Longstanding History in Sports Gambling
- Deep Catalog of Prop Bets
As a long standing operator of one of the best casinos in Las Vegas, BetMGM has jumped into the sports betting market online as a sub brand of MGM Entertainment. Now joining the Ontario sports betting fold, this world class sportsbook brings with it decades of experience from its casino operations. As one of the top performing sportsbooks in the United States, BetMGM has brought an exceptional user experience to its Ontario sports betting app and website.

🏈 Betting Markets & Odds
BetMGM Ontario is yet another site that falls into the category of: offers a lot of sports, but not all of them. Largely, BetMGM is missing Virtual sports, Esports, Aussie Rules, and novelty categories like Political Betting. That said, they do include entertainment categories like the Academy Awards. Where we give them extra points is that within each sport they do offer, they cover every leagues under the sun. Whether you’re into football, volleyball, boxing, or darts, they’ll have the right league for you.
💲 Payment Options
BetMGM offers common payment methods for deposits and withdrawals including prepaid cards, debit and credit cards, e-wallets, and Interac e-transfers. That said, payment methods available to you may differ based on your location. Once you sign in, you can check which deposit methods you can use by navigating to the cashier section of your profile.
🎧 Customer Support
Bettors can reach out to BetMGM Ontario very easily in the top right corner of their sportsbook. We give them huge props for this as other sportsbooks tend to hide the “contact us” section — a practice that is generally frowned upon. To get in touch with BetMGM Ontario, you can submit a ticket or use their 24/7 live chat feature. They do not have a direct email or phone number available.
🚫 Sportsbook Cons
The BetMGM app is currently only available in Ontario, which — fair enough — we understand that BetMGM values compliance. Unfortunately, that can be pretty frustrating for any Ontarians who may be abroad (or simply one province over!) trying to access their bets.
How We Review Ontario Sportsbooks
As avid bettors ourselves, we only recommend sportsbooks that we would trust with our own money. We assess for factors like competitive odds (compared to industry leaders), depth of betting markets, sports leagues, payment options, and ease of use. Our team also looks out for shady rollover requirements, withdrawal fees, and hidden terms & conditions. For the Ontario sports betting market, we only recommend licensed, legal sportsbooks.
How To Start Sports Betting In Ontario
It’s easy to get in on the best Ontario sports betting action available today in the province. Because the market is fully regulated, it’s important to select a sportsbook that is licensed within Ontario so you can ensure your winnings are paid out accurately and quickly. We highly recommend choosing from the Ontario sportsbooks listed in this article, and we detail how to select the best sports betting sites for your needs below.
1. Choose a Sportsbook and Create an Account
After selecting your preferred Ontario sportsbook, you can easily get started by creating an account. When you go to create an account with a licensed Ontario sportsbook, you’ll have to download a software called GeoComply which confirms that you are located within Ontario. GeoComply is an industry standard software, and is perfectly safe to download. Its sole purpose is to allow sportsbooks to abide by regulations, and by downloading the software you’ll expedite your ability to withdraw winnings.
2. Confirm Age and Identify
Once you’ve created an account and verified your location, you’ll have to upload a piece of ID which confirms your age. You must be of legal gambling age in your province of residence in order to bet, which in Ontario is 19+. To verify your identity, you’ll be prompted to upload a photo of a government-issued piece of ID, such as a driver’s license or passport. Only after you’ve verified your identity will you be eligible to start betting, so we recommend getting this step done and over with.
3. Make Your First Deposit
Once you’ve successfully completed all of the steps above, you’ll be able to make your first deposit. To make a deposit, simply select your payment method of choice, fill in the amount you’d like to add to your betting wallet, and click confirm. Most Ontario sportsbooks require bettors to load money into their wallet before betting, rather than pay as you go. This helps the sportsbook ensure you have enough money ready to go to cover the cost of your stake, minimizing their risk.
4. Compare Odds
From there, we recommend bettors compare odds at a few Ontario sportsbooks before selecting a bet. Most sports bettors will have accounts at a few different sportsbooks on the go in case they find better odds elsewhere. Bettors should always shop around for odds before locking in a bet, as you may spend more at one sportsbook than another for the same promised winnings. The same way you would price compare before making any large purchase, betting odds are no different.
5. Select Your Bets
Finally, you’re ready to select your bets. Navigate to the sports section of the book and select the sport, league, or market of your choice. From there, simply click on the odds you’re interested in and they’ll be added to your bet slip. Your bet slip should always auto populate when you select odds. Before you confirm your bets, you’ll have the option to toggle them as a parlay if you so choose. When you’re ready, double check your chosen odds and click confirm.
6. Withdraw Winnings
If your bet was successful, your winnings should be deposited into your account within 5 days at most. The majority of Ontario sportsbooks will deposit winnings within 1 to 24 hours of your win being confirmed. From there, you’ll be able to select your withdrawal method of choice, which does not have to be the same as your deposit method. Some withdrawal methods can also take up to 5 days to deposit to your account, so make sure you take this into consideration.
Is Single-Event Wagering Legal in Ontario?
Yes, single game Ontario sports betting is now legal in the province. On August 27th, 2021, the Canadian government passed bill C-218 which decriminalized single game sports betting at the federal level. Although each province is allowed to set their own sports betting rules, they must abide by federal level laws first. When sports betting was legalized at the federal level, it enabled each province to introduce single-game betting at their discretion. Within a year of federal legalization, all 10 provinces promptly introduced single game betting options to their government-run sportsbooks. Due to resource constraints, not all territories have access to legal online sports betting.
While sports betting has never been strictly illegal anywhere in Canada since the 1970’s, there have not been any specific regulatory rules added to the Ontario sports betting market in recent years. Largely what this means for Ontario bettors is a greater sense of security and peace of mind when betting. Regulated Ontario sports betting sites have been been approved by the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission to hold a license in the Ontario sports betting market. The majority of these online sports betting sites are official sports betting partners of Canada Sports Betting, and are highly reputable books to gamble with. For bettors, this means you can rest assured your bets are safe, you will be paid out winning promptly. and you are protected under the regulations set out by the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission.
Complete List Of Ontario Sports Betting Sites
Looking for more Ontario sports betting options? As the legal Ontario sports betting market expands, directly due to federal law allowing for single-game sports betting, there’s no better place to bet than the province of Ontario. The most populous province in Canada, Ontario was among the first to launch its government-run online sports betting platform (run by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission) back in April 2022, and is now the only province to have a list of approved, regulated private operators.

How To Choose The Best Ontario Sportsbooks
Every Ontario betting site is different in a number of ways, and what makes the best Ontario sportsbook will come down to the individual bettor. To choose a sportsbook, start by considering what’s important to you, what’s a non-negotiable, and what you don’t really care about, starting with the following criteria:
1. Sports Leagues and Betting Markets
Some Ontario betting sites offer a more extensive list of odds on certain sports, while some offer markets in fringe sports like table tennis and curling. For that reason we recommend Ontario sports bettors start by comparing the leagues and markets available to make sure you’re favourites are listed on your chosen betting site. Particularly because odds and markets can change on a weekly basis, so don’t assume they’re at every book. The good news is that you’re not limited to one sportsbook — if you see good odds on multiple sites, you can sign up for as many as you like! Just make sure you stick to our Ontario partner sites listed above for the best deals and odds.
2. Deposit and Withdrawal Methods
Sportsbooks are not all the same when it comes to depositing money and receiving payouts. If you’re looking to deposit via debit or credit card, you should be fine betting with the majority of Ontario betting sites available. Unfortunately, only certain sportsbooks will accept other methods of payment such as bitcoin, e-wallets, PayPal, or other electronic transfer methods. Check out this link for the best deposit methods in Ontario.
The most important thing to work out is how quickly sportsbooks will pay your winnings — there’s nothing worse than celebrating a big win and waiting days for the money to come through. Most Ontario sportsbooks generally pay out winnings between 1 hour to 5 days, so double check the payout speed if that’s important to you.
3. Customer Service and User Experience
If you’re new to Ontario sports betting, trying to navigate a book can be a fairly complicated task. What makes it worse is if you can’t find what you’re looking for due to a poor sportsbook design. Sportsbooks that feel cluttered or messy, or plainly have too much going on may make you feel overwhelmed when you’re trying to bet. Sports betting should be a fun activity, not stressful, so be sure to choose a sportsbook that you understand easily.
Furthermore, make sure to consider the availability of customer service contact options, and how the support team has been rated by other bettors. Things can go wrong with technology all the time, so being able to reach out to a dedicated service team when you need help can greatly reduce any betting frustration.
4. Live Betting and Streaming Services
Finally, be sure to assess the live Ontario sports betting options available at each sportsbook before you commit. Some sportsbooks offer live streaming as part of their betting service, which ensures the bets being shown line up exactly with the event you’re watching. You don’t want a lag in your stream to make you miss out on a cash out opportunity. Some sportsbooks will offer more markets, better odds, and more sports for live betting than others, so we recommend checking out the live betting options at each book if this is important to you.

Sports betting is a new concept to the Ontario gambling community (and most of Canada for that matter), which is why Ontario sports betting can come with a negative stigma. It’s important to remember that sports betting should only come from your entertainment budget, and you should never bet more than you can afford to lose. Ontario sports bettors should familiarize themselves with responsible gambling practices to protect themselves, their friends, and their bankroll. Most Ontario sportsbooks include responsible gambling safeguards, such as a deposit limit, loss limit, and self exclusion options.

What Else Can You Bet On In Ontario?
The AGCO has set out a list of specifications that dictate what Ontario sportsbooks can and cannot list for bettors to wager on. Key points include bets that are considered to be unethical, dangerous, placed on a fixed event, or involving minors, are not allowed within Ontario. Other than sports betting, Ontario bettors are allowed to wager on the following:
✅ Politics
While political betting may not be legal in the United States, it is perfectly legal on our side of the border. For that reason, most Ontario sports betting sites will feature political betting odds for popular upcoming elections. Similar to other sports betting markets, political Ontario betting allows bettors to wager on whether a candidate will win or not, similar to the moneyline.
✨ Award Shows
Betting on awards shows and ceremonies such as the Oscars, Emmy Awards, and Miss Universe, are very popular options available at Ontario sportsbooks. Most sportsbooks will publish odds for these awards shows once the nominees are announced.
👾 Virtual & E-Sports
Finally, virtual sports, e-sports, and fantasy sports betting have all become official Ontario sports betting methods that you can engage in. Not to be confused with each other, but virtual sports are simulated sports games — similar to watching a video game play out. Comparatively, e-sports refers to competitive video game playing, which has absolutely skyrockted in popularity since 2020.
💭 Fantasy Sports
Fantasy football isn’t just for your friends to bet on with each other. Ontario sportsbooks also offer the option for bettors to create fantasy leagues directly from their website. So, if you think you can put together a better team, take a look at the fantasy section of your favourite Ontario sportsbooks.
Responsible Gambling In Ontario
The Alcohol and Gambling Commission of Ontario regulated responsible gambling practices within the provinces which serves to protect the interests of Ontario sports bettors. While bettors across Canada can access sports betting sites, residents of Ontario are served online sportsbooks that have undergone rigorous changes to earn a license. Largely this means they’ve added resources for bettors to identify and prevent problem gambling, tools to protect minors, and systems to accurately confirm player location and age.
Ontario sports betting sites must request proof of age through government-issued ID, and allow players to opt out of marketing messages as part of Canada’s marketing privacy policies. Sites will also log players out after a certain period of inactivity to protect their account, and make players confirm they are fit to play before allowing them to enter the site. Finally, the AGCO has mandated Ontario sports betting sites do not promote bonuses or promotional offers, and they cannot promote betting through athlete partnerships. All of these practices are designed to mitigate problem gambling, and protect minors from engaging in sports betting.

Legal Sports Betting in the Rest of Canada
Finally, for Canadian bettors located outside of Ontario, they are free to bet on any sportsbook that operates in the grey market. While the grey market may sound unappealing to some Canadian bettors, the online sportsbooks we recommend at Canada Sports Betting are legitimate and secure. Just because your province may not regulate sports betting, does not mean you can’t safely and profitably engage in this activity. Generally, grey-market sportsbooks are based in the UK or the United States, and are regulated in the country which they are based. The freedom of the internet allows Canadian bettors to access these sites — but being grey-market, the books do not contribute to the Canadian economy through tax revenue.
As with any form of gambling, it’s important to do your research and make wise decisions before spending money. If you’d like more information about sports betting in other Canadian provinces, refer to the links below:

The most popular type of bet in Ontario is the moneyline wager. This is when you bet on an outright winner. As a straight-up bet, the moneyline is available for almost every type of sport where there is a head-to-head aspect. Betting on favourites will yield less payout than betting on underdogs, but betting on favourites has a higher chance of a payout.
Next to the straight-up bet is the point spread. This is like the moneyline with an added caveat: a handicap. You bet on a team to “cover the spread,” meaning they will win once the spread is added or deducted from them. Different from the moneyline, the point spread usually has close to even odds. You get the same (or almost the same) from betting either the favourite or underdog. This is another popular type of bet in Ontario.
Betting limitations will keep you from betting on the outcome of multiple games for offline sports betting in Ontario. Proline will only provide you with a limited selection of games to bet on. The catch with Proline is the “tie” option, which is essentially a close game between both teams. This added category is what makes betting Proline complicated and why your odds of winning are even smaller. A “tie” is decided when the result is within five points for basketball, three points for football, or within one run in baseball. So even if your teams win their outcomes, they need to do so by more than the point and run totals listed above. Tough. And the payout isn’t even as good as betting online.
You can bet on the outcome of multiple games online at most sportsbooks. This is also commonly known as “parlays” when you bet multiple outcomes into one collective wager. While many professional gamblers consider this to be an amateur move, it can still pay off in a big way. The way this works is you take one bet on an outcome and bet it together with another.
You will get a better payout, if and only if, all your outcomes win. There is also added risk here as your probability of success decreases with each outcome you add. But the payout will adjust to match this. You can bet multiple outcomes into a single bet anywhere from eight to a dozen or more. Of course, the more outcomes you put, the more unlikely you will cash this bet. So bet a small amount and you can still win a lot! Think of it like winning the lottery.
Pinnacle and bet365 generally offer the best odds in Ontario, but Sports Interaction, Betway, and Bet99 sometimes offer competitive lines as well. That said, odds constantly change so there is often no definitive answer. The best way to find great odds is to familiarize yourself with the different sportsbooks. Each book posts a different set of odds, although most will set odds that are similar to 90% of the rest.
Yes, you can bet on the Super Bowl in Ontario. As the most popular professional sporting event in North America, the Super Bowl is viewed by hundreds of millions of people every year. Football diehards and casuals alike tune in every winter for this game.
You can find many types of Super Bowl odds from any sportsbook. The odds range from traditional markets like straight-up betting and point spreads to in-game and exotic props. Almost everything including the singing of the national anthem, to the performers’ outfits, to political commentary, to social media happenings, can be wagered. Who knows, you may even have your own Super Bowl prop opened if you inquire with the sportsbooks.
