As Super Bowl LIX approaches, the Chiefs are chasing a historic three-peat, while the Eagles are determined to play spoiler—and Canadians have plenty to say about whom they want hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Shake in a dash of Taylor Swift mania, and you’ve got a spectacle that even the most casual of sports fans can’t ignore.
We thought it might be interesting to connect with fans ahead of the big game to see who they plan to root for and why. To say the least, the responses were…insightful, As Super Bowl viewers from across the country gave us their reasons why they’re watching, who they’re rooting for, and why. Some of those reasons may seem obvious, some may surprise you, and others were, uh, simply not appropriate to share.

The Breakdown: Who’s Cheering for Who?
Seven provinces fly high for the Eagles, while three back the Chiefs. Here’s a quick rundown of what we learned:
Screaming for the Eagles
- Alberta
- Manitoba
- New Brunswick
- Newfoundland and Labrador
- Nova Scotia
- Ontario
- Saskatchewan
Cheering for the Chiefs
- British Columbia
- Prince Edward Island
- Quebec
For Eagles supporters, the main lure is toppling the reigning champs—especially if those champs are on the verge of making NFL history with three consecutive titles. Meanwhile, Chiefs fans are drawn by the promise of that exact three-peat, along with a certain pop star’s possible stadium cameos. Depending on where you live, you could find yourself surrounded by midnight green or lost in a sea of red and gold.
It’s a fascinating split that only adds to the hype.
Reasons We’re Rooting for the Chiefs
If you’ve noticed an uptick in “Shake It Off” blaring from vehicles sporting Chiefs flags, you’re not imagining things. From what we’re hearing, a big chunk of Canadians cheering for Kansas City have been swayed by none other than Taylor Swift.

1) Supporting Taylor Swift (30.4%)
Yes, the NFL has officially entered the pop-culture zeitgeist. Swift’s appearances at games, the slew of Swift-inspired Super Bowl prop bets, plus the media frenzy around her connection to Travis Kelce, have made the Chiefs a magnet for new fans. Even some who can’t name a single member of the starting offensive line are happy to don a Chiefs jersey if it means aligning with the Swift brand.
2) Dislike of Philadelphia Fans (28.8%)
Eagles fans are passionate, and that fervor can rub some people the wrong way. Stories about rowdy tailgates and merciless jeers may give pause to those of us who resort to merely yelling at the TV.
3) Longtime Team Loyalty (17.9%)
Not all Chiefs fans are new. This segment of fans claim they’ve been around for years, cheering through heartbreak before the Mahomes era turned things around. But we have our suspicions.
4) Proving Haters Wrong (8.4%)
Dominant teams attract vocal critics, and Kansas City is no exception. Just like in the glory days of New England, fans relish to take down the perennial favorite.
5) Chasing the Historic Three-Peat (6.3%)
History buffs and sports junkies love witnessing once-in-a-lifetime moments. No NFL team has ever pulled off three straight titles, and Chiefs loyalists are dreaming of being part of that story.
6) Other (8.2%)
From fans in it for the halftime show to those who just love Andy Reid’s mustache, there’s always a wildcard group of renegades who forge their own path.
Reasons We’re Backing the Birds
On the flip side, supporting the Eagles comes along with its very own list of motivations—from pop star fatigue to genuine admiration for whatever it is they do in Philadelphia.

1) Tired of Hearing About Taylor Swift (36.7%)
Everyone loves a good cultural moment, but there’s a tipping point. Plenty of us are worn out by the non-stop coverage of Swift’s involvement and just want to focus on football. We might even be secretly hoping for a Travis Kelce retirement after the game.
2) Tired of Hearing About the Chiefs (30.2%)
Yes, winning is fun—but for fans of the other 31 teams, too much of the same thing can quickly become a snooze-fest. If you’re exhausted by Kansas City’s frequent appearances in big games, you might find yourself pulling for an Eagles upset.
3) Diehard Eagles Fans (9.1%)
Not everyone chooses a team on the fly. Some have been sporting Eagles green since the days Donovan McNabb or even Randall Cunningham.
4) Use of Indigenous Team Name (8.5%)
Mascots are meant to be fun, but personal tastes vary. Team tradition might be important to some, but apparently, not everyone feels the love.
5) Spoiling the Three-Peat (6.3%)
Nothing fires up a fan base quite like a chance to derail a dynasty. Denying the Chiefs a place in NFL history can be just as satisfying as a win for your own team’s trophy case.
6) Other (9.2%)
From folks who just love eagles as majestic birds to those who had a vacation in Philadelphia and found a new team to follow, the “Other” category is always a wild card.
So, choose your side, prep your game-time snacks, and brace yourself for the Monday morning debates about that one call that Mahomes shouldn’t have got. But ultimately, whether the Chiefs emerge as history-makers or the Eagles deliver a reality check, almost everyone will be hoping to see two different teams face off next year.
Methodology
In February 2025, we surveyed 1,578 Canadian residents who said they plan to watch Super LIX this Sunday. Our respondents were 48% male, 50% female, and 2% reported other gender identities.
All respondents were residents of one of Canada’s provinces. There was an insufficient number of data available from the territories to be included in this study.
