The Arsene Wenger era has come to an end and Arsenal start life under Unai Emery. Founded in 1886 and nicknamed the Gunners, with a cannon on their crest, Arsenal’s trademark over the past 20 years has been one of flare and beautiful attacking football. Playing their games at the Emirates Stadium in East London, thought to be the best stadium in England, Arsenal remains one of the most popular teams in the English Premier League given their rich history, flamboyant style of play and tendency to attract some of the world’s best talent. The club is the third most successful English side in terms of major trophies won, and though they hold an array of records Arsenal has not won the league since 2003-04.

Arsenal is owned by American Stan Kroenke, who not only had to replace the longest-tenured coach in English football but also the club’s chief executive as former executive Ivan Gazidis left his post to take the same job with AC Milan in Italy.

Having finished 6th last season and out of the Champions League was well short of the organization’s ambitions and as such will look to rebound this season. Unlike other big names clubs in Europe who recycle managers constantly Arsenal has been under the direction of one manager for so long that it will be interesting to see how they approach the Emery era. Much like Wenger, Emery is committed to a fast-paced brand of attacking football, and the striker tandem on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette will be asked to lead this team to success.

Arsenal has never been short of big-name players. Legendary goalkeepers like David Seaman, tenacious defenders including Terry Neil and Sol Campbell, classy midfielders such as Patrick Viera and Dennis Bergkamp and top-class strikers like Ian Wright and Thierry Henry are among the greats that the Gunners have featured over their decorated history.

While the Gunners have frustrated fans in recent seasons coming agonizingly close to Premier League success, you can always bank on them being in the mix at the business end of the season. Glory can’t be too far away for the Gunners.

Bet On Arsenal’s Games

Under Arsene Wenger, Arsenal was always box office and constantly unpredictable. You always knew that on paper they were loaded with talent and could be absolutely sublime. However, over the last years of Wenger’s reign, the stigma of mental midgets began to define the squad as they would often fold to bigger opposition or blow winnable games to lower-ranked opponents due to lapses in concentration and lack of overall preparation.

Unai Emery lost the first two games of his Arsenal career but has since gone on a winning streak. Time will tell what character and personality this team has under his mentorship and how different it will be to handicap them.

However, thus far in only a limited sample size Arsenal is scoring over 2.5 goals per contest but is allowing the 4th most shots against in the Premier League. During this early season winning streak, they have been able to keep their opponents off the score sheet. Whether or not this is a sustained model for success is to be determined but generally, it is not.

Furthermore this season they will have to endure more travel for Europa League fixtures than any of their peers with arduous midweek trips to the Ukraine and Azerbaijan. With a deep squad, the rotation will be necessary for these games. With a quick turnaround from Thursday Europa League games to Sunday Premier League games, always stay informed when it comes to injuries and who is in and out of the lineup.

Speaking dollars and cents, making the top 4 in the Premier League and playing in the Champions League the following season generates much more revenue and also helps attract transfer targets. A club with the status of Arsenal will have this right at the top of their list of priorities which may present interest betting scenarios as winter ends and the spring charge for the top spots begin.

Owing mainly to the fact that Arsenal is one of the most revered and well-supported clubs in England, there is no surprise that they have developed a number of fierce rivalries. The most famous of course is the North London derby with rivals Tottenham Hotspur, which has produced a number of epic encounters over the years. St. Totteringham’s day has come to mark the day on the Calendar year when Arsenal have clinched a higher place finish in the Premier League than Tottenham. However with the Spurs recent come up into the Champions League places, they’ll be hoping for no more St. Totteringham celebrations in the foreseeable future.

Gone with Wenger’s departure, are the historic personal rivalries he held with other top managers and new adversaries will eventually be formed.
