Since its inception, the race has always been the conclusion of the F1 season, drawing particular interest from bettors and motor racing fans.

The United Arab Emirates have been working hard to get more involved in international sport, hosting UFC events and hosting major sports finales. The race was the first day-night race on the F1 tour, which meant that lights would illuminate the track from the start of the event.

Past Winners at the Abu Dhabi Prix

Fortunately, the 2020 Abu Dhabi race was able to go ahead, despite the COVID-19 pandemic putting a stop to many other F1 meets. The race was due to take place on November 29 but was moved to December 13 to allow for the Bahrain GP to go ahead.

The race was won by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who achieved pole position with a time of 1:35.246. A great time and one which ultimately was enough to clinch him the win for the 2020 Abu Dhabi GP.

There were no surprises as to who else was on the podium, as Valtteri Bottas took the second prize with a time of +15.976. The third was the formidable Lewis Hamilton, with a time of +18.415. An exciting race and the first time the reigning champion Verstappen had won on this track.
