This could be the most fascinating match of the group stage. While every grouping will see its twists and turns, not often does a high-profile clash such as this Group F encounter at Lang Park in Brisbane, Australia, come around with such a potential for drama. Only that hard-fought 1-1 draw between the USA and the Netherlands, a rematch of the 2019 Women’s World Cup Final, compares so far.
Both France (FIFA World ranking 5) and Brazil (8) were dominant in their opening matches, but only one emerged with the full three points. Brazil rolled over Panama 4-0 in their 2023 World Cup debut With Ary Borges scoring three goals and setting up the fourth for Beatriz Zaneratto. France, statistically at least, had as much of the play go their way against Jamaica, but were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw.
The line is suitably tight without a true favourite on offer. France have won the last two meetings between the sides – 2-1 wins at the 2022 Tournoi de France and in extra time of the Round of 16 at the 2019 World Cup – but it’s difficult to look past those opening day results.
The Seleção were electric against the Panamanians. Borges opened the scoring after 19 minutes, added a second before half-time, and was then involved in the stunningly Brazilian third goal born of a series of deft passes around the area which with a Borges back-heel to Zaneratto in the box before capping off her hat trick in the 70th minute.
Les Bleues, however, are not Panama. France will not be as vulnerable to crosses into the box – all four Brazilian goals came from left-sided deliveries – and despite the score line against Jamaica, France were nearly as dominant, merely lacking in the most important category: goals.
With Brazil sitting atop the group with three points to one each for France and Jamaica, the French will be eager to not let that gap widen. While a final group stage match against Panama looks like a sure win, they will not want to settle for second place in the group.
But Brazilian confidence will be high. Expect them to start brightly. Should they take the lead, France will be desperate to draw level, so take a look at Result/Both Teams to Score of Draw/Yes at +333.
For France, Kadidiatou Diani, who was their most dangerous attacker against Jamaica, has the shortest goal-scoring odds (First +500, Last +500, Anytime +175), while her veteran striker partner Eugénie Le Sommer’s are slightly longer (+550, +550, +200). Brazilian hat-trick hero [Ariadina] Ary Borges (+900, +900, +333) looks like she’s worth a sprinkle, while Debinha’s odds are shorter (+550, +550, +200).
And there are some interesting same-game parlays each way. While neither side can expect to have the same amount of attacking freedom that they did in their opening matches – Brazil had 33 shots and France 13 – one shot on target from key attackers is highly likely.

In Group G action, a pair of European sides will look to build off last-minute victories in their opening matches at the World Cup when they meet at Wellington Regional Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand.
Sweden fell behind South Africa in the second half when Hildah Magaia scored in the 48th minute, but responded well with Fridolina Rolfö levelling in the 65th minute and Amanda Ilestedt scoring the game-winner in the final minute of regulation.
Italy, too, waited late to take all three points against Argentina with Cristiana Girelli coming off the bench to get her head on the end of a deep cross in the 87th minute.
Both on three points and with a 2-2 draw between Argentina and South Africa in their second outings, a win for either side would go a long way towards securing a berth in the next round.
The last three matches between the sides have ended square, including a 2022 Algarve Cup encounter which ended 1-1 before Sweden won the penalty shootout 6-5.
Sweden are slight favourites heading in, and though it took them a while to get going, once behind the Blågult they looked like the third-ranked team in the world in the latter stages against South Africa. When they needed an equalizer and then a winner, they found them, but they did allow that first goal. Le Azzurre, too, found the much needed breakthrough, but were rarely troubled by Argentina. Sweden will be a different challenge.
There are goals in this one, so a Result/Both Teams to Score of Sweden/Yes at +375 looks interesting. And in their opening matches there were no first-half goals, if all the action is reserved for the second half there are some intriguing numbers available. Half with Most Goals: 2nd Half at +110, Both Teams to Score in 2nd Half: Yes at +300, and Half Time/Full Time: Draw – Sweden +350.
Swedish forward Stina Blackstenius (First +450, Last +450, Anytime +162) has the shortest odds amongst the potential goalscorers. Blackstenius to score First is bet boosted to +500. Rolfö (+550, +550, +200) and Ilestedt (+3300, +3300, +1400) have already gotten on the board in Australia/New Zealand, as has Girelli for Italy (+700, +700, +260), though she wasn’t in the starting XI against Argentina. Italian captain Barbara Bonansea (+750, +750, +275) will almost certainly be included from the start.
A bet boosted same-game parlay of Blackstenius to Score Anytime, Over 2 Goals, Match result Sweden at +450 is tempting.

The other Group F clash on the docket, between Panama and Jamaica at Perth Rectangular Stadium in Perth, Australia, comes with some uncertainty.
Panama were dismantled by Brazil in their opener, falling 4-0, while Jamaica went toe-to-toe with France in a 0-0 draw. It makes sense that the Jamaicans are favourites in this all-CONCACAF clash.
But a decision late in that second match saw Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, the Reggae Girlz star, controversially shown a second yellow card and subsequent red card that will see her suspended for this one.
Shaw has been the primary goalscorer for Jamaica. Only one other member of the squad – Jody Brown – has more than 10 goals for the national team, so how her absence is felt by the side is hard to say. And Panama will have worked out the World Cup debut jitters and will feel much more comfortable going up against their regional neighbours.
There has been just two 0-0 draws at the 2023 Women’s World Cup through the first 27 matches. Jamaica, with Shaw in the lineup, were involved in one of them. A Correct Score of 0-0 at +600 looks inviting.
Should Jamaica pull off the 1-0 win, a Correct Score there pays out at +400.
The aforementioned Brown is the Jamaican player most likely to step up and find the back of the net in Shaw’s absence (First +500, Last +500, Anytime +187). While for Panama, Riley Tanner (+750, +750, +300) has the shortest odds to score Las Canaleras’ first World Cup goal.
