Sometimes the NFL season standings don’t tell the whole story. While it can supply you with the wins and losses from across the league, it certainly doesn’t paint the complete picture. With consideration for teams strength of schedule, injuries, and other factors that make up every squads season, we’ve crafted our expert NFL power rankings for the 2024 season.
Below we’ve highlighted all 32 teams breaking down where they currently sit within our league power rankings and why. These rankings can be used to help learn about each units strengths and weaknesses, as well as a projection toward the future of their 2024 campaign.
Latest NFL Power Rankings 2024
As we are officially well over the halfway mark of the 2024 NFL season, it’s never been more important to review our latest power rankings. Prior to any of the Week 12 action, see where each unit sits in our rankings, projections for their upcoming action, and an outlook toward their season finish.
1. Detroit Lions
Current record and division standing: 9-1 and 1st in the NFC North
In its nearly 100 years of existence, the Detroit Lions have never made it to a Super Bowl. This unfortunate trend may finally come to an end as the Lions have looked like legitimate juggernauts across a competitive NFL landscape.
It only took Head Coach Dan Campbell four seasons to transform the Lions from the league laughingstock, into one of the most feared units in football. Currently tied for the best record in the NFL with their lone loss coming from a Week 2 clash against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Lions have made mince meat of their opponents in 2024.
Heading into Week 12, the Lions are poised to lay down yet another one-sided beatdown as they face off against an Indianapolis Colts team that’s lost three of their last four games.
For our money, the Lions are the team-to-beat in the NFL this season, making them a must-bet squad on a weekly-basis.
2. Buffalo Bills
Current record and division standing: 9-2 and 1st in the AFC East
Hot off the heels of their thrilling victory over the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills look hungrier than ever to finally capture the illusive Lombardi Trophy. Led by franchise quarterback Josh Allen, the Bills offence has been firing on all cylinders, currently the highest-scoring team in the AFC.
With a fifth division title all but guaranteed at this point in the season, a home field playoff matchup will be crucial in the Bills chances of making their way out of the AFC as conference champions.
The Bills are on their long-awaited bye week in Week 12, giving them time to lick their wounds and catch their breath before making their final push toward Super Bowl contention in 2024.
3. Philadelphia Eagles
Current record and division standing: 8-2 and 1st in the NFC East
Coming off a massive divisional clash on primetime in Week 11, the Philadelphia Eagles vaulted their way up to the top of the NFC East as they now appear poised to claim their second divisional title in three seasons.
After crashing and burning to cap off their 2023 season, the Eagles are back in a big way after making major upgrades in the offseason, none bigger being the addition of RB Saquon Barkley. With the Eagles deadly rushing-attack at an all-time high, there are few teams that can compete with the Eagles physicality on offence.
With their sensational ability to win games in the trenches, coupled with the star receiver tandem of A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith, the Eagles posses incredible upside.
Heading into a Week 12 showdown against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, look for the Eagles to extend their current win streak to seven games as they look to return to the Super Bowl in 2024.
4. Kansas City Chiefs
Current record and standing: 9-1 and 1st in the AFC West
Success has been commonplace for the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl Champions and this has continued into the 2024 NFL season. After going undefeated for an impressive nine-game run, the Kansas City Chiefs are once again going to be a terrifying opponent for any team once the postseason rolls around.
After taking their first loss of the year on the road against the Buffalo Bills in Week 11, don’t expect this minor setback to alter the Chiefs upward trajectory as they once again are primed for a favourable postseason spot.
Holding control over the AFC with a weak upcoming schedule to finish the season, the Chiefs are in a great position to capture the top-seed in their conference, earning a first-round bye in the NFL Playoffs.
Potentially the best bet to make in Week 12, the Chiefs will hit the road for a date with the Carolina Panthers, a game that should be dominated from start-to-finish by the defending Super Bowl champs.
5. Baltimore Ravens
Current record and division standing: 7-4 and 2nd in the AFC North
Potentially ranked higher on our NFL Power Rankings than other experts, now is not the time to start sleeping on the fierce Baltimore Ravens.
While their Week 11 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers may have had alarm bells ringing for bettors, it’s time to take a deep breath and look at the forecast of this team clearly. The Ravens were two missed Justin Tucker kicks away from being the top team in the AFC North, forcing the Steelers to take all 18 of their points scored through field goals.
Even with this disappointing finish, the Ravens sport sensational depth and talent across the board and are deepest team in the NFL this season. With the star backfield of QB Lamar Jackson and RB Derrick Henry running rampant on their competition week-in and week-out, the Ravens have what it takes to make a deep playoff run in 2024.
Set to headline Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Ravens will have a great opportunity to get back on track against a surging threat in the AFC.
6. Minnesota Vikings
Current record and division standing: 8-2 and 2nd in the NFC North
One of the biggest surprise playoff teams in play for the postseason in 2024, the Minnesota Vikings have looked deadly this year. With Sam Darnold playing the best football of his career alongside superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson, the Vikes have had no trouble running up the score against their opponents.
Having notched impressive victories against the likes of the 49ers, Texans, and Packers, the Vikings should be viewed as a legitimate threat to make a run in the NFC this season.
Unfortunately, the Vikings will likely be stuck behind the Lions in the division standings which could lead them to having to play a road playoff matchup in the opening round of the postseason. However, the Vikings are currently 4-0 as visitors this season, so they’ll have no problem playing spoiler if put into that position.
In Week 12 the Vikings will be taking on a divisional rival in the Chicago Bears as they are primed to score a pivotal win in their 2024 campaign.
7. Pittsburgh Steelers
Current record and standing: 8-3 and 1st in the AFC North
At this point, nobody should ever count out the Steelers when crafting preseason rankings or predictions. With Head Coach Mike Tomlin always ready to make diamonds out of dirt, the Steelers are once again one of the most frustrating teams to play against.
Playing with an unmatched physicality, the Steelers outwork their opponents in order to break their spirit and take the win. Repping arguably the best defence in the league, the Steelers are more than comfortable grinding out low-scoring wins.
Since moving QB Russell Wilson into the starting role, the Steelers offence has reached a new level, with a notable improvement in their ability to string together big plays downfield.
Heading into Week 12, we still haven’t seen the best form of the Steelers. Scheduled for a Thursday Night Football battle against a struggling divisional foe, the Cleveland Browns, the Steelers are in a great position to get a stranglehold over the AFC North.
8. Green Bay Packers
Current record and standing: 7-3 and 5th place in the NFC North
After speeding up their rebuild by multiple seasons in 2023, the Green Bay Packers are once again primed for a run to the NFL Playoffs. Sporting the youngest roster in the NFL, the Packers have made up for their inexperience with elite play as they’ve established themselves as a postseason threat in 2024.
Led by one of the best young players at the quarterback position in Jordan Love, the Packers are offensively explosive. With a well-balanced wide receiver group, coupled with the play of Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs, the Packers haven’t slowed down in the post-Aaron Rodgers era.
In Week 12, the Packers will have their hands-full as they play host to the 49ers. Hoping to exact revenge for their postseason loss from last year, the Packers are ready to get their lick back against the Niners.
9. Houston Texans
Current record and standing: 7-4 and 1st in the AFC South
The lone AFC South squad with a winning record, the Houston Texans are one of the most exciting squads in the NFL. With the emergence of second year quarterback C.J. Stroud, the Texans are in a great position to capture their second-straight divisional title and a home playoff game.
While they’ve experienced some injury woes as well as some trouble to maintain consistent play, when they get going, there’s little to no stopping the Texans. With newly-acquired RB Joe Mixon running rampant on a game-to-game basis, as well as the stellar play of wide receiver Nico Collins, the Texans are more than equipped to take on any of the teams in the upper echelon of the NFL.
Go all-in on the Texans in Week 12 as they are set to face off against the Tennessee Titans at home, a matchup that should be easily won by the Texans as they further solidify themselves as the top dogs in the AFC South.
10. San Francisco 49ers
Current record and division standing: 5-5 and 4th in the NFC West
While the San Francisco 49ers have certainly been off to a rough start to their 2024 campaign, only a fool would count out this squad.
Possessing one of the most talented rosters across the NFL, the 49ers have hung tough throughout a myriad of injuries to their top contributors. With RB Christian McCaffrey finally making his return to the 49ers lineup in Week 10, the upside of this squad has greatly increased.
Even with a last place spot in the NFC West, the difference between the 49ers and the current divisional leaders in the Arizona Cardinals is a single game.
Still a playoff contender, don’t be shocked to see the 49ers go on a run to finish off the 2024 season as they prepare for a deep run into the NFL playoffs.
11. Los Angeles Chargers
Current record and division standing: 7-3 and 2nd in the AFC West
Amidst the first year of a major culture shift, the Los Angeles Chargers have been a consistent and tough team to face. With Head Coach Jim Harbaugh getting the most out of his team, the Chargers have managed to capture big wins over the Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals.
While the Chargers identity has long relied on the offensive side of the football, this year they’ve transformed into a defensive squad that keeps teams on their heels all game long.
With standout defensive talents such as LB Joey Bosa, LB Khalil Mack, and SS Derwin James leading the way, their defence has helped provide QB Justin Herbert with no shortage of opportunities to gain the lead in their matchups.
Potentially just scratching the surface of their potential, the Chargers will have a massive test ahead of them in Week 12 as they take on the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football.
12. Washington Commanders
Current record and standing: 7-4 and 2nd in the NFC East
While many scrutinized their offseason moves as they seemingly invested in a win-now squad behind rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, this has ultimately paid off in a major way.
Off to their best start since 1999, the Commanders have finally given the Washington faithful a reason to cheer. Possessing hope for the first time in over two decades, the Commanders are just at the tip of the iceberg in terms of their potential.
With Jayden Daniels looking like the next big thing in the NFL, the Commanders are not only in good-hands for this season, but into the future as well.
Bank on the Commanders to net you a boost to your bankroll this weekend as they are set to play the Dallas Cowboys, a divisional game that the Commanders are primed to dominate with ease.
13. Atlanta Falcons
Current record and division standing: 6-5 and 1st in the NFC South
The best team among arguably the worst division in football, the Atlanta Falcons could find themselves with an opportune finish to their 2024 season.
After making a splash in the offseason by acquiring quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Falcons have still struggled to maintain consistency from week-to-week. While these issues are still prevalent, at their best there are few teams that can match the talent level of the Falcons.
With standout talent scattered across the field on both sides of the football, the Falcons posses with ability to win any game once they get momentum behind them.
In Week 12 the Falcons will get a much-needed bye week as they aim to make their final push of the season a strong one as they look to maintain control over the NFC South and clinch a postseason spot in the process.
14. Arizona Cardinals
Current record and division standing: 6-4 and 1st in the NFC West
Shockingly the leaders among a loaded NFC West, the Arizona Cardinals are certainly a potential surprise playoff team in 2024. With a winning record through their first 10 games including a 2-0 record in divisional play, QB Kyler Murray has made magic for his team and gotten them a winning record in the process.
Sporting a squad that has built plenty of chemistry among each other in recent seasons as well as the breakout play of tight end Trey McBride and rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., the Cardinals have continued to slowly improve from week-to-week.
Heading into Week 12, the Cardinals will take on divisional rival the Seattle Seahawks in a game that could propel themselves into a dominant position over their division.
15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Current record and division standing: 4-6 and 2nd in the NFC South
After starting the season as one of the best NFL teams in the league, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fallen off into a four-game losing skid.
Gangbusters out the gates to start the 2024 season thanks to the elite play of quarterback Baker Mayfield and his star wide receiver tandem of Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, the Buccaneers began the season 3-1.
Unfortunately for the Buc’s they got hit hard by an injury bug with key players dropping like flies each week. With their lackluster showings in divisional play and poor injury luck the Buccaneers will need to go on a run to cap off their 2024 season on a positive note.
When healthy the Buccaneers are one of the leagues top teams and could be prepared to showcase this in Week 12 as they take on the troubled New York Giants.
16. Denver Broncos
Current record and division standing: 6-5 and 3rd in the AFC West
It’s an understatement to say that Head Coach Sean Payton hasn’t squeezed the most juice out of his team in 2024. With the bar being set incredibly low entering into preseason games, the Broncos have dispelled disbelief and are in position to make the NFL Playoffs.
With rookie quarterback Bo Nix looking right at home as a starter in the NFL, the Broncos have been an irritating opponent for their opponents this season. With an underrated defence that has kept points against at a premium, the Broncos rebuild seems to be progressing at a breakneck pace.
In Week 12, the Broncos are poised to continue their ascent up the AFC standings as they take on the lowly Las Vegas Raiders in a divisional showdown.
17. Cincinnati Bengals
Current record and division standing: 4-7 and 3rd in the AFC North
The highest-ranked AFC team with a losing record in our power rankings, the Cincinnati Bengals are going to be kicking themselves for letting this year get away from them. Failing to pull out wins in closely-contested matchups, the Bengals have dropped the ball too many times to count in 2024.
With a star-studded offence featuring QB Joe Burrow and the WR tandem of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Bengals have seemingly been able to close out big games. With little to no success to show since reaching the Super Bowl in 2021, there could be major shakeups on the horizon for this Bengals squad in the offseason.
Getting Week 12 off for their bye week, it’s officially do-or-die time for the Bengals, needing to win-out in order to give themselves a fighting chance at capturing a playoff spot in 2024.
18. Seattle Seahawks
Current record and standing: 5-5 and 3rd in the NFC West
A hard team to gage from a week-to-week basis, the Seattle Seahawks have struggled with consistency in 2024. With no shortage of talent to pull from within their roster, the Seahawks have failed to put it all together through their first 10 games.
With that being said, at their best the Seahawks have tremendous upside and potential that could make them a frisky team to make a run toward the NFC West title and a postseason birth. With quarterback Geno Smith operating well with his lethal weapons of D.K. Metcalf and Kenneth Walker Jr., the Seahawks can never be taken lightly.
Heading into Week 12, the Seahawks have the opportunity to propel themselves to the top of their division as they play host to the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.
19. Miami Dolphins
Current record and standing: 4-6 and 2nd in the AFC East
A major disappointment this season, the Miami Dolphins have certainly experienced sunnier days as they’ve failed to replicate their winning ways from the previous two seasons.
After losing starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to concussion in Week 2 of the 2024 season, the Dolphins struggled to remain competitive with their backup quarterback rotation unable to get the most out of their star-studded offence.
Since Tagovailoa has returned to the Dolphins lineup, they’ve seen a noticeable uptick in their play, currently rocking a two-game winning streak. Needing to continue their winning ways if they are to have an hope of reaching the postseason, they’ll need to hone in on resting and revitalizing their lineup during their Week 12 bye in order to go the distance this season.
20. Chicago Bears
Current record and division standing: 4-6 and 4th in the NFC North
After making major moves during the offseason, Chicago Bears fans had finally hoped to escape mediocrity. This hasn’t been the case thus far in 2024.
Coming off of a heartbreaking loss to the Green Bay Packer after a would-be game-winning field goal was blocked on the final play of the game, the Bears spirts are understandable low. With this being said, it hasn’t been all bad for the Bears in 2024. With number-one overall pick Caleb Williams gradually developing his game at the NFL level, the Bears have been a competitive force from week-to-week.
Tasked with a potential must-win game in order to give them a chance to get a sniff of the postseason, the Bears are going to have a tough test ahead of them in Week 12 as they host the Minnesota Vikings.
21. New Orleans Saints
Current record and standing: 4-7 and 3rd in the NFC South
Kicking off the 2024 season with an impressive 2-0 start, the NFL world thought this could potentially be the year the Saints finally make a run toward the Super Bowl without Drew Brees. How wrong we all were.
Since capturing back-to-back wins to begin the year, the Saints have gone 2-7 since then looking like a dumpster fire on a weekly-basis. With quarterback Derek Carr incapable of keeping his team competitive, they’ve had to rely heavily on the elite play of Alvin Kamala and gadget sets revolving around Taysom Hill.
Even in a turbulent NFC South, the Saints season is essentially a lost cause and shouldn’t be viewed as a viable betting option against any team.
22. Indianapolis Colts
Current record and standing: 5-6 and 2nd in the AFC South
Somehow still alive in the AFC playoff race even amidst a season full of head scratching moments, the Indianapolis Colts once again living in the limbo of the NFL world.
With second year quarterback Anthony Richardson have shown glimpses of greatness, as well as flashes of horridness, the Colts have been a bi-polar squad week-to-week. With a constantly changing lineup and inconsistent play style, the baby horses have been a tough sell for bettors in 2024.
With that all being said, the Colts aren’t a completely lost cause as of yet, well-within reach of a .500 record. If the Colts can establish a sense of dependability on the gridiron they could see themselves vaulted up our NFL rankings. But as it stands, they aren’t trustworthy enough to garner a better spot.
23. Los Angeles Rams
Current record and standing: 5-5 and 2nd in the NFC West
Still managing to string together a productive season, Sean McVay’s Los Angeles Rams are once again exceeding expectations. Relying heavily on the elite wide receiver unit of Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua paired with gunslinger Matthew Stafford, the Rams are a cheeky squad that can explode offensively any given week.
However, they’ve likely been over performing so far this season, with a steep decline just around the corner. Sporting one of the worst defensive units in the NFL, the Rams are lucky to be 5-5 at this point in the season.
I envision a major drop-off for the Rams as we get down the stretch of the 2024 season, be sure to fade them whenever possible.
24. New York Jets
Current record and standing: 3-8 and 3rd in the AFC East
Oh man, has this year ever been an embarrassment for the New York Jets, and with their recent history, that’s saying something.
After last year essentially served as a write-off after losing Aaron Rodgers in the first drive of their season-opener, the Jets came into this season with high-expectations. With a star-studded starting lineup on both sides of the football, projections were Super Bowl or bust. In this case, it’s been a complete bust.
Sporting a porous 3-8 record, this has been a dumpster fire of a season for the Jets. Things got shaky early on as they fired Head Coach Robert Saleh prior to Week 6 after a mediocre 2-3 record; a shocking move to be frank. Things didn’t get any better without Saleh as the Jets would go 1-5 after this move, even after bringing in Davante Adams to try and patch up the sinking ship.
This eventually led to the firing of General Manager Joe Douglas after a 30-64 record in his tenure with zero playoff appearances. Rumours are now swirling that they’ll also be moving on from Rodgers, further adding to the chaos that is the Jets.
Bettors be warned, don’t get lost in the big names sported by the Jets, they are a lost cause at this point in the year.
25. Cleveland Browns
Current record and standing: 3-8 and 4th in the AFC North
Entering into Week 12, the Cleveland Browns have crashed and burned to be blunt. Even after pulling off an upset victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football, this was more of a symbolic victory rather than one that will make any impact on their final standings.
The Browns have failed to recapture the momentum they once possessed after looking like a rising contender in the AFC. After losing in the Wild Card round to the Texans in 2023, this success was founded by Joe Flacco, not Deshaun Watson. With Watson out for the season, the Browns have turned to the charismatic Jameis Winston to salvage their season.
While they sport one of the best defences in the NFL, their offence is nowhere near consistent or talented to enough to be taken seriously. The Browns could put up a fight from week-to-week, but shouldn’t be viewed as a potential upset team with their current roster construction.
26. New England Patriots
Current record and standing: 3-8 and 4th in the AFC East
A far cry from the days of their dominant dynasty, the New England Patriots are progressing well through a rebuilding season.
With rookie quarterback Drake Maye gaining experience on the job in the starting lineup, the Pat’s are focused on development into the future rather than winning football games this season. Sitting at the bottom of the AFC East, the Patriots are hoping to land another future building block with one of their 2025 NFL Draft picks.
For bettors, the Patriots shouldn’t be looked at as a popular option, an easy fade to consider whenever they face the upper echelon of the NFL.
27. New York Giants
Current record and standing: 2-8 and 4th in the NFC East
Going from bad to worse, the New York Giants front office has created a disaster within their organization. After losing star running back Saquon Barkley to division rivals, the Eagles in the offseason in favour of paying quarterback Daniel Jones, the G-Men in their infinite wisdom have now released Jones after a 2-8 start to their season.
With no direction and zero positive notes to draw from, the Giants are likely to lose out to finish their season, once again hoping to strike gold in the draft and actually build a competent team around them.
Asides from the play of rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, this has once again been a season to forget for Giants faithful.
28. Tennessee Titans
Current record and standing: 2-8 and 3rd in the AFC South
One of the most popular sellers across the NFL, the Tennessee Titans are in the early stages of a full-blow roster overhaul. After moving on from Derrick Henry in the offseason as well as trading away Deandre Hopkins to the Chiefs, the Titans are more than happy to lose games in order to look toward the future.
While skill players such as Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard have had stellar seasons as far as stats are concerned, the Titans have been a cakewalk on most team’s schedules in 2024.
With their eyes firmly set on nabbing a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, don’t be shy of fading the Titans as they are sure to lose plenty of games moving forward.
29. Dallas Cowboys
Current record and standing: 3-7 and 3rd in the NFC East
At this point, the Dallas Cowboys very well may be cursed. After entering the 2024 season with playoff hopes, this quickly evaporated into thin air. With next-to-no run game, an inability to win close games, and a plethora of injury woes to top players, this has been a season from hell for the Cowboys.
With franchise quarterback Dak Prescott having suffered a season ending injury, any hope for the Cowboys to salvage their season has gone out the window. While they still have plenty of talent build around for next year, this season will be looked at as a wasted opportunity.
30. Carolina Panthers
Current record and standing: 3-7 and 4th in the NFC South
In the middle of what seems to be a never-ending rebuild, the Carolina Panthers are once again among the leagues worst teams. After the controversial benching of former number-one overall pick, Bryce Young, the Panthers have had no shortage of shortcomings in 2024.
While Young is now back at the helm of the Panthers offence, their poor finish to the season only further rubs salt into the wound as they don’t own their first round pick in this year’s NFL draft.
With their future in jeopardy and a front office seemingly clueless as to how a franchise should be run, the Panthers are easily one of the worst teams in the NFL, and will likely continue to be for some time.
31. Las Vegas Raiders
Current record and standing: 2-8 and 4th in the AFC West
Hot off the heels of a failed experiment with Derek Carr and Davante Adams, the Las Vegas Raiders have had a horrendous beginning to their Sin City residency.
With a lack of talent, poor coaching, and no real outlook for the future, things are bleak for the Raiders. With Maxx Crosby looking like a Ferrari parked in a scrap yard, the Raiders are in desperate need of a facelift.
Rocking likely the worst overall roster skill-wise in the NFL, they’re an easy pick to bet against for the duration of the season as their 2-8 record is only going to get worse from here.
32. Jacksonville Jaguars
Current record and standing: 2-9 and 4th in the AFC South
Holding down the bottom spot of our 2024 power rankings, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been bewilderingly bad this season.
It wasn’t long ago that this team was competing in the NFL Playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs, and now they’re looking down the barrel of their fifth losing season in seven years. With losses to the Bears, Browns, and Dolphins already this year, the Jags have been incredibly disappointing.
With Doug Pederson unable to recapture his Super Bowl magic, Trevor Lawrence looking more and more like a major bust, and putrid overall roster construction, there’s barely any positive takeaways for the Jaguars this season.
Holding down the worst record in the NFL, the Jaguars are poised to draft at #1 in the 2025 NFL Draft, hoping to rebuild a competitive roster and leave this putrid season in the past.
Key NFL Matchups to Watch – Week 12
Week 12 of the NFL season has several amazing matchups on tap that could leave major impact on postseason outlook for several teams.
In the late window of the Sunday slate, the Arizona Cardinals will take on the Seattle Seahawks in a game that could decide the top-seed of the NFC West. Facing off for the first of two head-to-head meetings, this matchup could go a long way in securing a playoff spot.
While that matchup unfolds we’ll also see a rematch of the 2023 NFC Divisional round as the San Francisco 49ers take on the Green Bay Packers. While it was the 49ers who emerged victorious in that back-and-forth battle, the Packers have gotten better while the 49ers have struggled to recapture their dominance from a season ago.
Lastly, don’t miss out on the Monday Night Football thriller between the Baltimore Ravens vs. Los Angles Chargers as the Harbaugh brothers go head-to-head as two of the top squads in the AFC look to secure a massive win.
Impact of Recent NFL Trades
There have been some major trades made throughout the 2024 NFL season thus far and are already sending shockwaves across the league. Below we’ve highlighted some of the biggest moves of the season to date and how they’ve translated to on-field production.
✈️ Davante Adams to the New York Jets
The first major trade made during the 2024 NFL season reunited one of the leagues most dominant duos of the past decade as Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers got the band back together. Along with Allen Lazard in the wide receiver room, fans of the late 2010s Packers might be feeling nostalgic while watching the Jets play football this season.
Since being dealt to the Jets, Adams has certainly made his presence felt, having hauled in 175 yards through the air and a touchdown grab in his first three games, Adams is quickly blossoming in his new surroundings. With their backs against the wall for the remainder of the season, Adams will be crucial in any playoff hopes the Jets may have.
🏹 Deandre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs
Seemingly an unfair move to have made, the two-time defending Super Bowl Champions just got one of the best wide receiver talents the game has ever seen in Deandre Hopkins. A three-time All-Pro wide receiver, Hopkins has immediately been a boost to the Chiefs offence.
Filling the void left by Rashee Rice who was lost for the season due to injury in Week 4, Hopkins has linked up effortlessly with quarterback Patrick Mahomes for 115 yards and two touchdowns in just two games played. To the chagrin of the rest of the league, the undefeated Chiefs, may now be unbeatable.
🦁 Za’Darius Smith to the Detroit Lions
Being dealt to the Lions to kickoff Week 10 of the NFL season, this could be a major move for a team hopeful to make a Super Bowl appearance this year.
After losing star edge-rusher Aidan Hutchinson earlier this year, the Lions went out and found a suitable replacement in the three-time Pro Bowler, Za’Darius Smith. Having racked up five sacks in nine games played for the Cleveland Browns this season, Smith will now find himself as a prominent piece of a top-tier team in the NFL.
🦅 Diontae Johnson to the Baltimore Ravens
Looking to finally give Lamar Jackson a component receiving corps to play with, the Ravens made a great move by rescuing Diontae Johnson from the football purgatory known as the Carolina Panthers. Pairing him alongside the speedy Zay Flowers and the standout tight end tandem of Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, the Ravens are in their best position to win in the Lamar Jackson-era.
While it’s been a slow start to the migration of Johnson into the Ravens lineup, this move will pay dividends down the stretch of the season, especially in the playoffs when they need a sure-handed receiver to make a clutch play.
🐃 Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills
The last of the notable wide receivers moved in the 2024 season, Amari Cooper was shipped off from Cleveland to join forces with Josh Allen out in Buffalo. After toughing it out with a horrendous Deshaun Watson under centre, Cooper will now be taking passes from arguably the best quarterback in the NFL today.
In his debut with the Bills, Cooper wasted no time making an impression, snagging a touchdown pass to go along with 66 total yards. Set to emerge as the team’s new top wideout threat, Cooper could be key in helping bring the Bills to the promised land in the AFC.
⚔️ Marshon Lattimore to the Washington Commanders
Going all-in on a potential deep run in the NFL Playoffs, the Commanders have improved upon their weakest point of their roster by acquiring four-time Pro Bowl cornerback, Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints.
By adding Lattimore ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline, the Commanders are now a well-balance squad that teams are going to have a hell of a time facing on both sides of the football.
NFL Power Rankings Offer Valuable Handicapping Information
Different formulas are used to form the wide variety of NFL Power Ranking charts available. Websites backed by billions have access to every NFL stat, employ mathematicians to add up and dissect the numbers and hire smart people who bring algorisms into the mix. That said, they don’t have crystal balls so their NFL rankings are usually by the numbers without much human opinion.
Beyond wins and losses, there are plenty of facts that can be uncovered by studying the standings. Points for and against are a good place to start, as high scoring teams, that are fielding a decent defense, are tough to beat. Super Bowl contenders are often at or near the top of the PF/PA differential category. As with all trends, there are some outliers that are tough to read prior to the playoffs. Apart from Giants fans, very few saw New York knocking out New England during Super Bowl 46.
Wrapping Up: NFL Power Rankings 2024
