PGA RSM Classic Odds, Betting Preview: Value On Mackenzie Hughes To Have Continued Success At Sea Island

Mackenzie Hughes of Canada plays his shot from the seventh tee during the second round of the Sanderson Farms Championship 2024 at the Country Club of Jackson on October 04, 2024 in Jackson, Mississippi.

The 2024 golf season is winding down, but that doesn’t mean that bettors should shy away from throwing down a wager or two on some of the remaining fall events.

This week, the Sea Island Resort in Georgia will host The RSM Classic which was won last year by Ludvig Aberg, who is the favourite heading into this year’s edition with around +1000 odds at most online sportsbooks.

The event will be played over both the Seaside (par 70, 7,005 yards) and Plantation (par 72, 7,060 yards) courses, and the winning score is typically around 20-under par, although Aberg finished 29-under to claim last year’s title under ideal weather conditions throughout the week. Both courses will play under 7,200 yards, so players will have an abundance of approach shots from 150 yards or closer. Make sure you take this into consideration before placing your wagers and target players with excellent wedge and short games.

Canadians in the field

Mackenzie Hughes (+4000 @ NorthStar Bets): Hughes won this event in 2016 in a playoff, and he finished second last year behind Aberg with a score of 25-under par. Hughes also finished second at Sea Island in 2021 and has an average finish of 18th over his last eight stops at the event. Hughes is winless this season, but he ranks third in strokes gained: putting (0.688) on Tour.

Adam Svensson (+5500 @ NorthStar Bets): Svensson has also had success at this event, claiming the 2022 title with a final score of 19-under par. He posted an identical final score in 2022, but that was only good enough for fifth place. Svensson has finished outside of the top 39 in each of his last five events with two missed cuts.

Adam Hadwin (+9000 @ bet365): Hadwin has struggled in his last three starts at this event, with his best finish coming last year (T51). He’s missed the cut in three of his last six events and isn’t in good form right now.

Roger Sloan (+40000 @ bet365): Sloan finished 61st last year at this event, one year after a 23rd result. He’s only made the cut twice in his last five tournaments, with an average finish of 61st.

Best bets for The RSM Classic

Mackenzie Hughes top-10 finish: +375 (bet365): A win and a pair of runner-up finishes is enough reason to back another strong result from the Canadian at Sea Island this week. In fact, throw a half-unit on Hughes to win outright as well at +4000 odds.

Si Woo Kim to win outright: +2800 (bet365): Kim isn’t long off the tee, but it doesn’t matter on these two shorter courses. He ranks in the top 30 in SG: total (26th), SG: approach to green (14th), driving accuracy (17th), scrambling (27th), putts per round (22nd), and one-putt percentage (25th) on Tour this season, and we’re getting good value on him at +2800 odds considering the field, which is lacking overall star power. The Korean is in good form, finishing T18, T6, T5 over his last three PGA Tour events while also shining at the recent Presidents Cup for the International Team.
